With the rain coming this race cut up pretty bad leaving just the three runners but in true HRP style even with just three runners on sloppy ground we still had to endure a photo finish and a close finish. This is how they went:
1st World Of Wonder, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Held the rail which was possibly the key as the two market leaders swapped the lead during the entire seven furlongs. They both look beat a few times and I must admit I didn’t think she would get back up in the stretch to beat the runner up but she was hugely game and determined and just got her nose in front at the right time. This was only the filly’s second career win and she seems to have the right attitude to add a few more before long.
2nd Smile Niki Smile, trained by Whitewater Stables
Well it’s pretty much ditto as far as the race goes as either this filly or the eventual winner could not really be separated in their runs. The slight difference at the end could be put down to the fact that this one had to run a little wider for the entire race but it was also a fair fight in the long stretch and it was Smile Niki Smile that could not sustain the challenge to the line. She looked to have it won though with a furlong to run and this was a good effort on ground that was always going to be stamina sapping.
3rd Mourn, trained by Team 7 Illusions
It looked for a minute that the one race maiden may come with a late run and make it a three way photo but common sense just prevailed and she ran on to be just a length behind at the line. It is impossible to tell just how good this run was but on face value the fact that a maiden finished just a length behind in a black type race looks very promising.
