Panther Tree Just Edges Rip Snortin in the ET Mint Julep
This year’s installment of the ET Mint Julip was a great one, with a thrilling run to the line between two great horses. When the gates opened Iceberg jumped out of the gate and rushed to the front and took control of the race with a first quarter of the race in 23 and 4. Rip Snortin took up a stalking spot in second behind the leader followed by Panther Tree and Vorurtle. Four furlongs into the race the running order in the top four had not changed with Rip Snortin sitting just one length off the pace setter, with Panther Tree four lengths back and Vorurtle five lengths off the pace. With just over three furlongs left to run Rip Snortin made his move on Iceberg and passed her. With both Panther Tree and Vorurtle still the same distance off the new leader. With two and a half furlongs left to run Eileithyia started hitting her best stride and moved into fourth, and hoping that she could close in for the win. With one furlong to go Rip Snortin had opened up a length and ¼ lead on Iceberg with Panther Tree two lengths back and Eileithyia three lengths back both looking to be the danger horses for Rip Snortin. It was in the final furlong that Panther Tree looked like she was shot out of a cannon and Rip Snortin was calling for the wire trying to hold off this fast closer. In the end the wire just came just to late for Rip Snortin as Panther Tree just nosed her out to get the win in a race for the ages. Eileithyia closed in nicely and finished third and Iceberg finished fourth. Let’s take a look at how the race broke down and the pay outs.
