Bold Ruckus Stakes
$125.000 Dirt Stakes At 6F Turf For 3 Year Olds Bred In Ontario
2016 Champ: Smartest Way
A field of six three year old colts and geldings will take to the WO track Sunday afternoon looking to compete for the $125.000 purse. Mb Stables will be looking to defend their title after winning in 2016 with Smartest Way.
1- Caught Asleep (Trained by Maxmillion Farm, Ridden by Wilson E J)
Getting the rail position in this one is Caught Asleep. He comes into the race in good form after an impressive win last time out at this very track winning a ON bred 3+ race. He is as talented as any horse in this race, but may be in need of a bit more distance then the 6 furlongs they will be running here.
2- Destined For The Top (Trained by Threshold, Ridden by Moran D)
It will only be the second race of the year for Destined For The Top. He struggled to an eighth place finish in his first start this year. That race was back in March so he will be coming into the race off a long layoff. His works are steadily improving but might need a start before he is really ready to compete.
3- Cool Touch (Trained by Smokey Stover, Ridden by Contreras L)
The barn of Smokey Stover will send out Cool Touch. This three year old colt comes into the race off a seventh place finish in the GIII Red Bank. He should enjoy the cut back in distance as it looks like 6-7 furlongs will be his ideal distance. His works are comparable to everyone else in the race, would likely be a bit higher priced long shot that could surprise everyone.
4- Moscow Court (Trained by Mb Stables, Ridden by Garcia Alan)
Mb Stables comes into the race as the defending champions of this race and will send out Moscow Court. All indications point towards a good start of this one. He comes in off a nice effort in a GIII on a soft turf course. The added distance will help. He should have no problem finding his way into a top three finish.
5- Tune Up (Trained by Estero Farms, Ridden by Boulanger G)
Another of the top contenders in the Bold Ruckus is Tune Up. He was an impressive winner in a CD allowance race last time out going a mile on the turf. This time he will cut back to six furlongs but looks like he has more then enough speed to handle the distance. He looks like the one to beat and if he can run to his potential he should get the job done.
6- Criminal Enterprise (Trained by Hambletonian Stable, Ridden by Hernandez R M)
Rounding out the field of six is Criminal Enterprise. He is fresh out of the auction ring where he was purchased by his new connections for $35.120. Up to this point he has been running in turf races under six furlongs so this is actually a step up in distance. His work times suggest that should not be much of an issue but in against a tough set of ON bred three year olds he is unlikely to cash a check.
