NY Stallion Stakes – Bid
$100.000 Turf Stakes At 7 Furlongs For Three Year Old NY Breds
2016 Champ: Neto
The 2017 edition of the Bid NY Stallion Stakes has attracted a large field of eleven three year olds. D J C Racing Stables has won this race three of the past four years and is looking to win it for a fourth time. Lets take a look at the field.
1- Sir Laffalot (Trained by Tiratzo, Ridden by Lopez P)
A winner in his most recent start, the $65.000 Opening Verse stake at CD is Sir Laffalot. He has done some very nice things in his most recent starts and is one you can’t overlook in this spot. He along with a group of three to four other horses in this race all have a shot at winning.
2- Crushed (Trained by John Henry, Ridden by Velazquez J R)
A two race win streak is always a nice way to come into a race which is what Crushed is doing. His most recent start was a victory in the $100.000 Murphy Stakes at PIM. If he can stay close enough to the pace and close late he has a very good chance of hitting the top three.
3- Desmond (Trained by Sharis Stables, Ridden by Carmuche K)
Six career starts, six career races on the turf for the three year old gelding Desmond. Hes a solid looking little horse but has struggled to get back to the winners circle since breaking his maiden. He will need a seasons best type start to crack the top three which looks unlikely.
4- Hispaniola (Trained by Hay Makers Inc., Ridden by Rosario J)
One that has not been shy to run in NY bred races this year is Hispaniola. Unfortunately it has not been successful for him as he has not had a top three finish in his last six starts. His most recent turf works warrant taking a shot on the turf again with this one but will need a huge effort to take down the top group in this race.
5- Abu (Trained by Jader Stable, Ridden by Ortiz J L)
Abu has four career wins on the turf from seven starts and will be looking to add to that in the Bid. In his most recent start he had a very solid third place finish in a good time. Both horses that finished ahead of him that day were older, experienced turf runners. If he can put in another performance like that in this race he will come home with a check.
6- Bottom Bay (Trained by Gdp Inc, Ridden by Ortiz I Jr)
Winning on a soft turf course last time out was Bottom Bay. He will look to build on that four length victory in the Bid. He will likely get overlooked by the betting public at post time but could sneak up on everyone turning for home. Not considered one of the top contenders in the race but could put up a fight.
7- Sinister Raceport (Trained by Chili King Stables, Ridden by Castellano J J)
The most inexperienced runner in the race is Sinister Raceport. In three career starts he is yet to even break his maiden. He has shown some talent in the morning but hasn’t been able to put it together on the track yet. It is very unlikely he will get it together when jumping up in class to take on stake company.
8- Some Beach (Trained by Night Rider Stables, Ridden by Maragh R)
Switching back to the turf after a couple unsuccessful starts on the dirt. Likely was hoping for a smaller less competitive field when put in the entry box for this one. He looks like hes a dirt runner so not expecting a whole lot out of this one.
9- Tipsy Indian (Trained by Joseph Racing, Ridden by Lezcano J)
After great success on the turf in the last half of his two year old season Tipsy Indian switched back to the dirt for 2017 with only very moderate success. The switch back to turf could be just what he is looking for to get back into the winners circle. His works suggest he is ready for a big race and is one to watch here.
10- Forty Two (Trained by Team 7 Illusions, Ridden by Alvarado J)
Forty Two has hit two straight soft tracks and will be hoping for some harder ground in the Bid. Post ten likely wont be ideal for this one as he would want to be able to clear all the ones to his inside but not sure he has the speed to do it. Unfortunately traffic may be his biggest struggle in this one.
11- Repose (Trained by D J C Racing Stables, Ridden by Saez L)
The three out of four year champs of this race will send out Repose looking to win it again. He comes in off a five length maiden breaking score back in early May where he won wire to wire. He will need to clear the field early and be able to hold off the closers late. He is showing some talent but may need a race before running against these types.
