Nakamura Stables Takes Home Dance Smartly

GII– Dance Smartly Stakes

$175.000 Stake at 1 1/4 Mile on the Turf For Fillies & Mares Three Years & Up

Another race on Queens Plate afternoon feeling the effects of the weather was the Dance Smartly as it saw one of it contenders Snappy Return scratched in the morning do to the soft conditions of the turf course.

As they broke from the gate it was clear very quickly that Shadow Of A Doubt wanted to set the early pace as he opened up a five length lead in the opening furlongs. Behind her was Viking Amy, Must Be Nice and Sunset Beach Bunny with What A Troublemaker another few length off them.

The order didn’t change at all down the long WO turf course backstretch. Around the final turn the pack of four trying to run down Shadow Of A Doubt were able to slowly close ground on her and by the time they turned for home it was obvious she was tiring and eventually would fade all the way back to last.

Down the stretch Sunset Beach Bunny turned on the jets all the way from the back of the pack and swing out wide of the final turn and run down Viking Amy who had inherited the lead from fading Shadow Of A Doubt and with a furlong to go Sunset Beach Bunny stuck a nose in front and would be able to pull away to a one length victory.

Viking Amy came across the wire in second, two and a half lengths ahead of What A Troublemaker third. Must Be Nice never looked comfortable on the soft turf coming home fourth.

Congratulations to Nakamura Stables and their four year old filly Sunset Beach Bunny on her first career graded stake victory!
