Contagion Gives Them All a Cold in La Prevoyante Handicap

La Prevoyante Handicap – Grade III
1 1/2 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $200.00 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Contagion, trained by La Canada Racehorses
This was either a great spot by La Canada Racehorses who picked this one up for just $7.500 or just another example of a failed class system, just which of those is true we may never know but either way the owner must be patting himself on the back pretty hard. Bought cheaply after running well enough at lower overnight level she was one of those that had nothing particular pointing towards a preference for turf but had always worked strongly and put in a rather swift 57 and 3 5 furlong work which probably caused La Canada to make a cheap offer on her. I do wonder why her previous owner hadnt tried her on turf but outstanding mile works after that sale made her less of a surprise winner than she should’ve been. Up on the speed she kicked clear and held on comfortably to score by a length and could be a turf mare with a future.

2nd Volare, trained by Axeman
This grand old gal, now 8 years old had me screaming at my screen as she closed in her usual way but just didnt have the speed to over haul the winner. What an amazing mare this is, a real HRP favourite with 18 wins from 50 starts and no sign of her hanging up her horse shoes just yet.

3rd Smokin Nebulae, trained by Drabfantasy
Finished well enough for third but seems to have risen a bit too far in the weights for this sort of race. This was a decent effort though and i am sure she will be competitive again in graded stakes throughout the coming season.

4th Taking Liberties, trained by Gdp Inc
Kept on but was a little one paced in the end finishing a close up fourth. A nice enough effort but i dont see enough improvement to get me excited and whilst she may indeed manage another small black type i dont she will ill rise above grade three level.
