Good Line Looks Pretty Tough

                      The First Lady-GI (P5) [BC]
                           KEE Race 5 1M- Turf
                               Purse $400.000
Three Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

A field of ten runners is getting ready to run in the First Lady here at Keeneland Race Track and they are going to try and earn a free berth into the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf. As they all try to get that it looks like a pretty tough field. I think it is going to be an exciting race for sure. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Take Faith (12-3-5-1 $347.550), trained by Fractious

Now right here we have a grade one winner but she will be making her first start for her new trainer after she was purchased for on hundred and ninety dollars. She is definitely a pretty good horse but she hasn’t won since that grade one victory so I’m not sure if she is that good anymore.

2. Walklikemydad (20-5-8-3 $253.930), trained by Flamingg Moe

Here is another pretty good filly and she is coming into this race off of four top three finishes in stakes races in a row. She did win one of those races and that was the grade three Wilshire Stakes. If she runs like she has been I think she could have a pretty decent shot to win this actually.

3. Big Fan (12-1-3-2 $96.620), trained by Mb Stables

Well here is a definite wildcard because this filly has never raced on the turf in her career before so I don’t think anybody can guess what’s going to happen with her. I guess about the only thing you can go with is that her works are a little faster on the turf but who knows what she’s going to do.

4. Cavalia (8-3-3-0 $188.800), trained by D J C Racing Stables

Unlike the runner to her inside this filly has actually been running on the turf. She is coming off of a stakes win at Belmont going six furlongs on a good turf course where she won by a half of a length. I’m not sure that she really wants to go a route of ground but I like the shot that is being taken.

5. Killer Angels (24-6-2-4 $818.670), trained by TwinTowers Racing

Now this filly here is coming off of what might be a very big confidence booster because she just won a very big race by four lengths at Kentucky Downs over soft turf. Maybe she just really liked the soft turf or maybe she finally got back to winning ways but she might have a decent shot to win.

6. Sandset (13-2-2-3 $390.200), trained by Team 7 Illusions

Another one of the graded stakes winner in this field and she has been in some of the biggest races this year for the turf fillies and mares. She just ran second in a grade two at Belmont and is coming into this race in good form. I do think she is just a tad outclassed but she could still have a decent shot.

7. Good Line (16-7-4-1 $2,337.000), trained by Mb Stables

Well here is the big mare in the field and she is very consistent and is a definitely a very good mare who has run big in some big time races. She is coming off of a win in a grade two at Del Mar and should be very tough in this spot. She is going to be my top pick in this race because she looks the toughest in here.

8. Bounding Away (17-9-4-2 $389.950), trained by Angelos Stable

Now this filly is definitely the most consistent in this field because she has never been out of the top four in all seventeen of he career starts. She is a very consistent filly but she hasn’t necessarily faced the biggest challenges in competition but this is definitely her toughest test in her career.

9. Chateau de Chambord (9-3-2-1 $164.880), trained by John Henry

Another stakes winner in this quality field and she is coming out of a grade three at Arlington where she ran third by three quarters of a length. She also ran tenth in the grade one Belmont Oaks so I’m not sure if she is grade one quality but maybe she has improved since that not so great finish.

10. Quakerce (13-7-0-0 $803.600), trained by Sir Daniel Martin

Last years Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner and she has been winning races this year but she has only been winning allowance races and hasn’t been able to win any of the grades stakes she had been in. The outside post doesn’t help but she still is a pretty good filly and has a decent shot.

Summary

Well it is a very good field for this race and there are some very good fillies and mates that are in the field. My top pick is going to be the seven horse and that is Good Line. She looks the classiest filly in the race and she looks like she is the best to me so that’s where I’m going. Good luck to all.
