Here we have the big weekend of what is called the poor mans Breeders Cup. It is the day for the hard knockers in this game with all of the Claiming Crown races for claiming rank horses. This race is for runners which have started for $16.000 or less in the past two years. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Downward Roll (32-10-5-6 $186.080), trained by Night Rider Stables

First runner we come across in the field here is coming into this race off of a fourth place finish in a stakes race at Monmouth going a mile. He has been winless since being claimed but he has been knocking on the door every time. He will have to run a big race to win it.

2. Cali Jesse (42-12-9-2 $307.720), trained by Black N Gold Stable

Next runner in the field here and this horse is coming into this race off of three stakes efforts in a row. Right off the claim this horse has been stepped up in company and he did run second in a statebred stakes race at Woodbine. If he can roll on from the back like usual he will be picking up the pieces late.

3. Swaps (7-2-0-3 $50.060), trained by Arindel

Now onto this horse who is entering this race off of last place finish in a claiming race at Churchill but it was a small field with not a whole lot of early pace and he was last the whole way. A bigger field here but he is going to have to show some improvement to have any shot here.

4. Bittersweet Symphony (10-3-0-0 $78.240), trained by High Voltage

Now to this horse who is coming into this race off of some out of the money finishes. He has been solid in races that he fits but when he is entered up in tougher spots he has not shown a whole lot. I just don’t see him running well with these and I think he is better at a distance.

5. I Aint Scared (24-4-9-2 $289.890), trained by T Boy Racing

Well here is my runner that is in the field here and he is coming into this race off of a third place finish in a New Mexico bred stakes race. He ran eighth in this race last year but I do think he is a lot better horse this year. He is the high weight but I’m confident in his chance to at least hit the board.

6. Double Eclipse (9-3-2-2 $57.590), trained by Allinthegate

Now taking a look at this horse and he is coming into this race off of a win in a claiming race at Parx where he ran very well. He has won twice at that twelve dollar claiming level so he shouldn’t be up against in here. I think he needs to run a big race but he should be capable of it.

7. Conan The Barbarian (35-12-4-4 $261.240), trained by Night Rider Stables

Second entry in this field from Night Rider Stables and this horse is coming into this race off of an impressive win in a starter allowance at Golden Gate. You can almost guarantee he will at least be on or near the lead but I’m worried that he might go too quick at seven furlongs.

8. Oversell It (58-24-7-10 $1,576.070), trained by John Henry

An old warrior right here and he has visited the winners circle so many times in his career. He is obviously a little less of a racehorse that he once was but he fits perfectly against this field. I would not be surprised at all if he got his twenty fifth career win in here.

9. Move On (7-3-3-0 $42.980), trained by Invicta Group Llc

Now onto this horse who is going to make his first start for his new trainer in this race. He has had quite a bit of success on the turf this year and I’m not sure what has caused the surface switch with him. He will definitely have to run a career best to have a chance at winning in here.

10. Dodger Blue (15-4-2-4 $268.340), trained by RNP Stables

Another one in this field who seems to be a bit better on the turf but he is obviously dropping in class in this race so I don’t think the dirt will be an issue at all. He will also have to handle the cutback in distance in this spot because he has been going a route of ground. He has a chance if he handles the surface.

11. Crake (23-5-4-5 $187.990), trained by John Henry

Next horse in the race and he is coming into this race off of two out of the money finishes in a row. He had been running pretty good early on this year but in his last two he has dropped off in from quite considerably. He needs to turn his form around to even hit the board in here.

12. Raunchy Mach (16-5-2-1 $145.490), trained by Spankys Barn

Also one who had been running well up until his last two races also. He has ran last in his two starts coming into this race and they have not even been somewhat respectable lasts. He is going to have to turn around his form almost a complete one eighty to have a shot in this spot.

13. Great Gallant (18-7-3-5 $224.090), trained by Gustafson Stable

So far this horse has been a win machine on the year winning a little over half of his races on the year. It has not mattered what competition he has faced he has been able to handle all of it pretty much. The post hurts him but he might end up being the favorite in this race.

14. Ridiculous (12-5-1-2 $100.040), trained by Ace Racing Stable

Final horse in the actual field here and he is going to be making his first start for Ace Racing Stable in this spot after he claimed him when he won his last start at Finger Lakes. A very tough post to overcome but he has been in very good form most of the year.

15. Workers Comp (13-5-1-1 $79.310), trained by Greeko Holdem

Also Eligible

16. St Leger Magnifique (27-8-8-4 $194.130), trained by T Boy Racing

Also Eligible

Well it is a full field for this race and the claimers have come out to run this weekend. A big field here so runners will have to get perfect or almost perfect trips to get to the winners circle. My top pick is the thirteen Great Gallant because he is in great form this year. Good luck to all in the field.
