 10    WO                 WO Oaks Stakes

$500.000                3yoF Foaled in CA          1 1/8m Dirt               123lbs

Broadway Stripes makes it two in a row and feasts on home cookin’… again… after taking the Fury Stakes last out, she chugged and chugged and chugged home in the WO Oaks Stakes to score a nice payday and add to her CA-bred undefeated string (now at three races) getting home in 1:483 and win this one by a neck.  Post time favorite Flawed Justice passed a bunch of ’em down the lane, but had to settle for second, with Sheza Showgirl in third.

With a purse like this, you know the gate would be loaded… and as the bell rang, the gates opened and the ten fillies were off and running with Stuck In My Ways away well, Sheza Showgirl going with that one, Kumagaya, Very Brady from the far outside, Flawed Justice from the rail, Broadway Stripes next to that one, then Unsuspecting, Envy, a gap to Burning Attention and Keymadge was away slowest of all.

Past the stands the first time, around the clubhouse turn and nearing the backside with six furlongs left to run, Sheza Showgirl skipped away to lead by two and a half lengths.  Suck In My Ways grabbed a rail position stalking the leader and Unsuspecting was on her flank.  Another length and a half back to Very Brady, then a gap of three back to the trio of Flawed Justice on the rail, Kumagaya three wide and Broadway Stripes between that duo.  Then another length and a half to Envy between Burning Attention on the inside and Keymadge four wide and last.

Making their way down the backside and into the far turn, they were stringing out a bit with Sheza Showgirl in front by a length and a half, Stuck In My Ways still stalking the leader, another length and a half to Unsuspecting, a length to Very Brady and another to Broadway Stripes.  Flawed Justice to the inside of that one, then a gap of two to Kumagaya, Burning Attention along the inside and Envy between them, as Keymadge continued to trail.

Around the far turn, into the lane and now inside the furlong marker, Sheza Showgirl still showing the way but Broadway Stripes fanning five wide and moving forward in a hurry… Flawed Justice now flying into contention, Unsuspecting four wide an trying to find more, Stuck In My Ways on her inside… the run to the wire was on!

Deep stretch and to the wire, this was all about Broadway Stripes as she just wore this field down and went under the wire in front by a neck.  Flawed Justice made a huge run in the late stages but just couldn’t catch the winner, the a length back to Sheza Showgirl in third.  Unsuspecting was fourth, then Very Brady nosing our Burning Attention for fifth.  Envy was another nose back in seventh, Keymadge eighth, Stuck In My Ways ninth and Kumagaya closed this one out.

Broadway Stripes is a 3yo filly by Tessas Candy – Braodway Shadows, by Shadow Twin, and she was bred in ON by her owner, Glorify Stables.  This was her fourth win of her career, two of those coming this season, and she now has winnings totaling $549.320.

Broadway Stripes rated back to a mid-pack position, steady gain around the far turn, swung out for the drive, took over inside the final sixteenth, held sway late, won driving.  Flawed Justice was reserved early, best foot down the lane, gaining inside late, ran out of room.  Sheza Showgirl broke alertly, set the pace to the furlong marker, headed, could not go on.  Unsuspecting tracked the pace, lost position into the lane, could not improve.  Very Brady raced just behind the pace, tired.  Burning Attention was not a factor.  Envy rated back, asked, little response.  Keymadge trailed, passed tiring rivals.  Stuck In My Ways broke alertly, tracked the leader into the far turn, tired.  Kumagaya was not involved.
