Making only the fourth start of his career, Gigabyte used Saturday’s $200.000 G2 LA Futurity to stamp himself an early favorite for next spring’s G1 KYD.  Covering the 11/16 in a snappy 1:41.78, the Smokey Stover trainee improved his ledger to 4-2-1-1 with earnings of $233.120 and took home 10 KYD qualifying points.  While Gigabyte got the victory, the runner-up, Aladdins Genie, may be another one to watch going forward as it appeared he had traffic issues before getting free.

Distinctive Edge was sent to the front from the gate and he set the pace early on as Gigabyte and Changing Times chased him through a :23.32 opening quarter and :46.96 half-mile.  Gigabyte had inside position but he was always within a length of the leader.

The eventual winner took over after three-quarters in 1:10.89 with Changing Times trying to keep pace.  At the top of the lane, Gigabyte had increased his advantage over Changing Times who was in close contact with High Time and Distinctive Edge.  Those three horses appeared to cause Aladdins Genie to have to stall his bid.  By the time he got a clear lane, Gigabyte was well clear and on his way to victory.  Aladdins Genie was moving well late and got up for the place photo over Changing Times who ran hard every step of the way.  They were followed by War All The Time who finished in front of Foreign Relation, High Time, Liberia, Distorted Reasoning, Custom Continental, Distinctive Edge, Model Commander, and Killer Instinct.

Gigabyte (Con Artist o/o Gigafactory) is a Smokey Stover homebred.  Congratulations to horse and trainer for their victory in the $200.000 G2 LA Futurity and good luck to all of the participants as they continue down the KYD trail.
