The Martha Washington (KYO)- $200.000 Purse
OP- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile on the Dirt
January 29, 2022
Low Budget Java has not raced all that much in her career so far as the filly was making just her fourth start in the $200.000 Martha Washington at OP. She had been very impressive in her first three races, with one $250.000 stake win and narrowly missing a graded win. Nakamura Stables and his favorite jockey, V R Carrasco, had the filly ready to run, running on the lead, which has been her usual style, and picking up the win at the end by a nose! It is the first win in the race for both the trainer and the jockey, congratulations to them! The winning time was 1:35.54, among the better winning times of the race in its history. Let’s take a look!
(¼ Mile- :23.37)- Two horses show a little more interest in running quickly out of the gate than do the rest of the field, and one of them is our eventual winner, Low Budget Java, for Nakamura Stables. With a very slight advantage on her for now is Jive Inc.’s Woo Doggie. Behind them, there is a break of a length and a half to another pair that are running side by side. Exactly is third, and close to the rail for Fractious, and Peppermint Angel is right beside her for Ace Racing Stable. Within a length of them, and looking to make it three wide is Cmonyalll (Arindel). Next up, it’s Lassitude (TwinTowersRacing) and Bahrain (Waldo). It’s about two lengths to Canadian Flight (Mb Stables) and Out In Space (Crocker Ggs), and at the back of the pack, Kiss Me Back Foot (Night Rider Stables) is the trailer.
(½ Mile-: 46.75)- Down the backstretch we go with the second quarter run in nearly the exact same time as the first quarter. And the top two are running exactly as they were before, as both Low Budget Java and Woo Doggie match one another’s strides. Not much has changed elsewhere in field either, as Exactly and Peppermeint Angel continue to serve as stalkers. Cmonyalll backs off of her possible three wide move here, however. It’s still Bahrain and Lassitude us next, with a gap to the rest of the field.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Low Budget Java was very impressive in the turn, and there was nothing that Woo Doggie could do to match up with how she handled it. Our eventual winner was now all by herself at the front, and leading by about a length and a half. Exactly had caught Woo Doggie and was about to move into second. Peppermint Angel was losing touch with that one, as she had been running with her all race. Cmonyall was still running to her outside, and had not yet made a move. Lassitude ran in the middle of the field, clearing Bahrain. Canadian Flight stayed stuck to the rail further back and both Out In Space and Kiss Me Back Foot had not shown much interest in getting involved.
(Finish- 1:35.54)- Early in the stretch, it looked like Low Budget Java had this race in the bag, and with a furlong to go, she still had a length and a half lead and it would seem safe with as little as half a furlong left. However, in the dying moments, she might have gotten a little tired, and when adding in a last second drive from Exactly and even Cmonyall, we would have a very tight photo for the victory. In the end, Low Budget Java survives over Exactly by the narrowest of margins, with Cmonyall doing all she good to get up for third. The most impressive horse in the stretch though was probably Canadian Flight, with her flight forward for fourth. If she can just start that run a little sooner next time! Lassitude was next, and it was two length to the fatigued Woo Doggie, who still defeats Peppermint Angel, Out In Space, Kiss Me Back Foot and Bahrain.
About The Winner- Low Budget Java, trained by Nakamura Stables and ridden to victory by V R Carrasco, is a three year old filly by Cup Of Java and is out of Low Budget Movie. She was bred in Ontario by Nakamura Stables as a second quarter two year old, the only trainer for which she has ever known! Congratulations to the connections! The win is her third in four starts, and her second stake win. Her career earnings are now $300.000.
