Mb Stables Wins Another Derby Prep: This Time SA Derby with The Golden Age
After winning the BG Stakes, there was more work to be done for Mb Stables out west in the SA Derby, as the trainer had three entered in the SA Derby. In the end, he would see one of his horses, The Golden Age, pick up the win, giving him five horses in the top nine of the KYD leaderboard.

An Impressive Wire To Wire Win In BG Stakes For Obi Wan
Chalk up another one for Mb Stables! If the game allowed it, Mb Stables could just about fill up half the starting gate for the KYD, with Obi Wan becoming the next one to get a big win in a prep, doing so in the BG Stakes. Obi Wan was the runner up in the BC Juvenile last fall, but was on the bubble of making the field coming into the BG Stakes, but with this win, he would clinch a spot in the KYD if he were in any other stable.

Big Blue Brilliantly Stretches Out and Wins Transylvania Stakes
A big turf race took place on Friday in the running of the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes at KEE, and some rain came in to affect the track just enough for it to be downgraded to “good” status. That would not be a problem for Big Blue, a horse that ran in the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint last fall, and was stretching out for the first time.

Large Purse And 100 Points On The Line In BG Stakes
If you add together the purses for the other two KYD preps on Saturday, the Wood Memorial and the SA Derby, you get $1,250.000. That would also be the purse amount for the BG Stakes, by itself. KEE is certainly doing something right by increasing their purses, a stark contrast from SA, who lowered theirs for 2025.

100 Valuable Points on the Line in SA Derby
We’ve reached the final big weekend of prep races for the KYD, as three 100-point races will be held that can shake up the leaderboard as we currently know it. There will then be the “Hail Mary” next weekend in the Lexington, but this weekend will determine a lot. Here, we will head out west to SA, to take a look at the 22nd running of the Grade 1 SA Derby.

Three-Year-Old Turfsters Get Their Chance to Shine in Transylvania Stakes
With last weekend behind us, we can start looking ahead into racing in April, and before we get into the big Saturday preps, we have this nice $600.000 turf race from KEE on Friday in the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes. That purse amount is a new high for the race, and a considerable increase from the $150.000 that it was at as recently as 2021.

Boss Spearman Lays Down the Law in AR Derby
Earlier in the day, Daemon asserted himself as the KYD favorite with five weeks to go before the big race by winning the FL Derby. This would lead all eyes to OP, where virtual race fans looked to see if the other top contender, Extreme Jet, could also get a big win in the AR Derby.

Licit Captures OP Mile at 15/1
While there may have only been six horses in the OP Mile field, it was a strong and deep field, so when Licit saw his odds shoot up to 15/1, it wasn’t that people thought he was a bad horse, there were simply more appealing runners in the field. It’s a bit of a shame that the OP Mile was not picked for one of the Pick ‘em races, because it would have been interesting to see how others saw this field.

Domination Time for Distant Breeze in Ghostzapper
The Ghostzapper was a wide open race on paper at least, and it was one that The Sidley Stud really wanted to win as the trainer entered three into the race. He would get what he sought to do, as Distant Breeze came away with a two length win at odds of 7/1.

Ghostzapper Can Be Anyone’s Race
We’ll have a full field on Saturday for the 22nd running of the Ghostzapper, a stake that has been a Grade 3 since inception, but has seen some small distance changes over the years. It’s a part of a great day of racing at GP as we lead into the feature races, the GP Oaks and FL Derby.
