Named for one of the biggest legends of all time at SAR, the Fourstardave Handicap provides an automatic spot into the BC Mile in just three months. The race first appeared on the schedule in 2003 as a Grade 2, and was won by one of our own legends, the great Alpha Ultimo.
Grade I
Lets Celebrate Does It Again, This Time in The Whitney
When the year began, Lets Celebrate was running in a $12.500 claimer at TAM. Now, he is the favorite to win the BC Classic after picking up his second straight victory in an automatic qualifier for that race. Last month, he was down at CD and won the Grade 1 Foster, and now he did it again, coming from off the pace as he so likes to do, to win the Grade 1 Whitney.
Wild Finish in The Test
We would have a fantastic finish in The Test, with a five way photo finish at the wire and a total of seven horses being within a length at the wire. Prevailing in this very tight battle at the wire would be Devils Bride, out of the red-hot Fractious. She was one of three runners that the trainer had in the field, and we went with one of her stablemates in the preview.

As Expected, The Whitney Field Is Loaded
All eyes will be at SAR on Saturday, something that will usually be the case during the meet, but there’s a little more on the line this week as the 18th running of the Whitney, arguably the second biggest race of the meet, will take place. At stake for the race will be the prestige of winning such an event, as well as a $1,000.000 purse and an automatic spot in the BC Classic!
On Saturday, It’s Time to Take The Test
It’s Whitney Day at the Spa, but before we get into that race, the races on the undercard certainly deserve to have their chance to be highlighted. Among them is the 21st running of The Test, which is a long sprint for three year old fillies and has been a Grade 1 since inception.
Retaliate Gives Us Another Massive Longshot Winner in Crosby Stakes
An entertaining day at DMR was highlighted by the running of the Crosby Stakes on Saturday, a race that would send a horse directly to the BC Sprint just as long as their trainer wanted them there. It was a race that featured the usual favorites of the betting public, as well as some decent prices along the way. Then, there were a couple horses in the field that hardly got any action at all.

Deep Field Ready to Go in Crosby Stakes
A spot in the BC Sprint is on the line at DMR on Saturday, as the 20th edition of the Crosby Stakes will be going to post. This Grade 1 event has seen some great winners in the past, including two horses that did so twice: Sweeper in 2011 and 2013, and then Z One Chance in 2018 and 2019. Also a past winner was a nine year old Alpha Ultimo in 2009 in what was his next to last career victory.
