15th Season Of The Vagrancy Handicap Attracts Seven

Trainer Mb Stables will send out two entries this year in hopes of capturing his third Vagrancy title after back to back victories in 2015/16. Last years winning trainer John Henry will be absent from competition.

  • The Vagrancy Handicap- Grade III Purse $200.000
  • Belmont Park- For Fillies and Mares four years old and Upward
  • Six and a half Furlongs Main Track
  • May 11th, 2019

A field of seven hopefuls will take to the dirt oval here at Belmont Park, consisting of six four years, an one lone five year old by the name of Down And Out ( Mb Stables ). In this events history, four year olds have outscored five year olds three to two in victories, so Down And Out has her work cut out for her.

So starting off with the double entry of Mb Stables, Down And Out will start from the five hole, and is coming off some decent efforts in both the Gr. III Fritchie Stakes, and the Gr. III Distaff Hdcp where she was sent off as the hot favorite. Placing second and third respectively in those affairs, the winner of the Fritchie has come back to capture a level higher title, so she should be all out here. Track conditions should be more favorable as well. Her stablemate Morning Tea will break from her outside from the gate, and she only returned to the main surface since a stint with the turf. The results were productive with the change, winning an OpClm62.5 at TAM just last month going seven eights of a mile. While all her Graded company efforts can on the grass, she should use her last race to springboard back again. In for a minor share.

Others from this field who should make this an interest affair will be the likes Returned ( Axeman ), Miss Myers ( 0quinn Farm ), Im Working On It ( Smokey Stover ) , Diplomatic Chaos ( Winning Link Stables ) and Cry Out ( D J C Racing Stables ). So lets look at them individually.

I really like the effort put in last time out by Miss Myers in the Gr.III Las Flores Stakes. Her closing effort in that affair going just six furlongs for the victory at SA, should play well for her here with the extra half furlong to run. While she has never competed over this track in her career, a sharp five furlong work says she is ready to do battle. Definite consideration.

Another who is coming off a Graded event with promise is Cry Out. She found herself facing a muddy going in the Grade III Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland, as she tossed all the mud aside to close to within a length for second at some long 29-1 odds. Definitely wont get missed at the windows for this event, and should be in the hunt for a share.

Not to dismiss her efforts in the Gr. III Distaff Handicap, but it was the first start of the season for Diplomatic Chaos. She faced a good footing over at Aqueduct last month, and while she did manage to get to the frontend, she would slip back to fourth, two shy. Gets to compete with Down And Out once again, and may need to keep a little in the tank early on to stay for the finish.

Rounding out the affair will be Returned and Im Working On It. Returned has a record of eight for nine in the money for her career. Has only tackled the Graded company level once last season, but finished out of the money for that race. Two starts ago she earned a 97 SRF figure going six furlongs, and she will definitely be the early pacesetter for this event. She needs to stay around at the end. As for Im Working On it, she has been visiting the winners enclosure like its her home. Has won her past four straight events, and has seven wins in fourteen starts. Was purchased in early February, and now that the confidence has been built in two protective allowance events, trainer is stepping up to give her the respect she deserves.
