The Empire Distaff
BEL Race #12 1 1/16m Dirt Stake
statebred Purse $250.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Foaled In NY.
1 All Fueled Up, trained by Axeman
These statebred stakes races rarely attract a field of any significance and that is the case today so this 3 race winner may not look too much but against just 3 rivals she has a decent chance. Bought cheaply at auction she made some nice ground to be fifth in the SUN Oaks in her first start for the new trainer but was then taken right down into the cheap races to try and find a win. After failing in a LAD one win allowance there was clearly some improvement at home as she then came out in a MTH Allowance and got home by a quarter length. That improvement was carried through into the La Lorgnette Stakes where she went in again and you only have to look at her works to realise her trainer has found the key to this ones success. A great chance off the inside draw.
2 Dreaming Of Lys, trained by Angelos Stable
Another three year old she has far more established form with two grade three wins this year. The last of those was in the Groupie Doll but i think her win in the Beaumont was better than that. A consistent type she has shown up well in sprints but i think she needs a mile plus now and this is a pretty soft race for a $250.000 purse.
3 Nice High Five, trained by Hambletonian Stables
You have to go back to April to find any significant form for this one when she was a close third in the grade three Whimsical Stakes. She doesnt win too often and having to give weight to two nice looking three year olds may be too much.
4 Maybe Forever, trained by Hambletonian Stables
A better proposition to her stable mate though her form over a route trip amounts to a fourth in the ungraded Summer Colony. She may find herself battling for third with her stable mate.
SUMMARY
A pretty straight forward exacta with Dreaming Of Lys the form choice of the two and she may just beat All Fueled Up
