5 Florida Bred Sophomores Line Up in the Florida Sire Stakes-Prized

The Florida Sire Stakes-Prized, Purse $150, Ungraded, One Mile, Turf for 3 Year Old on Turf

Today at GP it is a big day for horses that were bred in the state of Florida. This is a nice race for 3 year olds that will be going a mile on the turf. In this race you have 5 horses signed on with 4 of the 5 looking to break through and get their first stakes win, with the lone stakes winner having only won one stake himself. This looks to be a race where owners are hoping to springboard their horses up the class ladder after this race. Let’s take a look at the field:

1-Wealth Manager (MB Stables)- He has started 12 times in his life with 5 wins. He has also won 2 out of 6 races on the turf. Early in his career he was running on the dirt then made a quick 2 race stop on the turf before moving onto the Triple Crown trail where he failed to make an impact in 2 races. He was then moved back to the turf and promptly won back to back races at the OC level. He was then moved up to the stakes level for his last 2 races where he finished 2nd and 7th respectively. He appears to have dropped back down to a very realistic spot and looks to have a big shot in this race.

2-Dogs Silver Stacker (Axeman)- He has won 4 out of 12 lifetime starts with all of those wins going long on the turf. He comes into this race off the claim for $14 off a very nice looking mile and 1/16th win in an claiming race last out. This is his first trip into a stakes race and the new owner Axeman had to figure that this was worth the shot off that pulling away 7 length win last out. This horse has shown some ability at the OC and Alw level winning back to back races earlier this year. He looks like he may be ready to run also after posting a nice 5 furlong turf work just a few days ago.

3-A Fighter (Thinken Stables)- He comes into the race winning 4 out of 9 lifetime starts and is 1 for 2 on the turf with his loan turf win coming in his last race which was here at GP in June. He is the lone stakes winner in the field today but that win came last year as a 2 year old while sprinting on the dirt.   The switch to turf for this one seems to have been something that he wanted to do as he ran well going long on the turf. My question is did the track coming up good rather than firm help this one out since he seems to be dominant on any type of off ground? We will find out later today.

4-Informa (Night Rider Stables)- He has won 3 out of 12 lifetime starts with 1 win in 3 starts on the turf. He has yet to win any type of race other than a sprint race in his career. He won his first start on turf in an Alw race then stepped up to routing on the turf in stakes the next 2 races and missed the board in both races. He moves back down in class to a more realistic spot today running against a bunch of horses looking for their first stakes win. We will see if the move back down in class will help him get that first route victory.

5-Starling (Hawaiian Shirt Guy) He has run 17 times in his career and has just a maiden score to his name in those 17 starts. He is also 0 for 10 on the turf and 0 for 5 going long on the turf. He has spent a lot of his career running in claiming races or starter allowance races and has yet to break through with that second win. Owner Hawaiian Shirt Guy purchased him earlier this year and has run him 2 times so far and has yet to get a return for him. He is hoping that getting him in against state bred horses will be what helps get him his second win.

These are always fun races when you see state bred horses taking on each other trying to notch a nice stakes win on their resume. I have a feeling that we will find a new stakes winner out of this race. Here is my prediction. 1-2-3-4
