The Frizette – Grade I
1 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.000 Two-Year-Olds. At AQU
1st Santorini Riggins Racing 5.25-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)
Well, that seven-furlong work foretold this win for Santorini, as she unleashed a wicked stretch run that brought her from next to last at the far turn to an opening length winner of The Frizette. That’s four straight wins to bring her record to four for five starts, all of them from off the pace. Amazingly, she has so far shown none of the inconsistency that usually comes to deep closers in HRP World. So, off to the KY Oaks, but I guess not an ‘in’ for the BC Juvenile Fillies?
2nd Boldly Unbold Mb Stables 10.95-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
It was that mile work that made Boldly Unbold noticeable in the preview and her closing kick that made her noticeable at the finish line. She was pure stalker as they came out of the chute and headed down the backstretch. By the time they reached the stretch, she was fourth and moving into contention for the battle to the wire where she prevailed bravely for second a length.
3rd Lose Control Team 7 Illusions 14.30-1 (HRP) 6-1 (SRF)
Now Lose Control’s form looks brilliant with just one bad race in four tries. She showed she can handle the route with a gallant run into the stretch where she took over the lead and looked to be on her way to victory until the deep closers caught her unaware. She may have been tiring a little in the final strides, but it looked more like she just got outraced those last steps.
4th Ukraine Be Free La Canada Racehorses 8.85-1 (HRP) 5-2 (SRF)
Ukraine Be Free gave a pretty even performance and was in the thick of it at the top of the stretch but couldn’t find the run to improve her position down the lane.
