GIII – The WV Derby

$750.000 Graded Stake 1 1/8th Mile on Dirt for Three Year Olds

The WV Derby featured an amazing streak as Clash Study was going for his sixth straight victory and would not disappoint. Clash Study was stretching out over a mile for the first time in his career and looked as comfortable as can be doing it. He took his normal position early in the race a few lengths off the lead. As the race went on he slowly picked away at the lead

The pace setter in the race was D J C Racing Stables’ Winter Is Coming. He would lead most of the way until Clash Study was able to chase him down as they turned for home.

Socraties spent much of the race sitting in sixth until the turned for home where he was able to step it up a notch and swing wide, coming home third.

Atletico sat right where he wanted to be early in the race but when it was time to make his run just did not fire today and finished fourth.

Sitting steady in fifth place pretty much the entire race was Rush Henrietta.

Following Rush Henrietta was Painted Blood and Warrior Chant. Rounding out the field was post time favorite Moccasin Skin who was last throughout the race and never fired when asked by jockey Lopez P.

Congratulations to Smokey Stover and everyone behind Clash Study and their victory in the GIII WV Derby. Everyone is excited to see what this horse can do next!
