Can Royal Prodigy Win The Fayette?

Fayette (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
KEE- For Three Year Olds and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
October 28, 2017

Apologies in advance for the short preview. Do not have much time to write today, and unfortunately these fields just drew today (I had all the time in the world yesterday!). So that I am not accused of favoring one stable, I am going to keep it simple. Recap will be of the normal quality, and I’ll be fine for BC weekend!

Getting it to now, a field of eleven has assembled at KEE this Saturday for the 13th running of the Fayette, a solid Grade 2 option for those not participating in the BC. In the early days, this was a race dominated by Australia Wide, who won it in three of the first four years, making him the most successful trainer. R J Albarado has been aboard the winner three times. Past winners feature several good horses, perhaps Chien Ming Wang and Bella Rose are the most well known, but none have great star appeal.

The Field Is As Follows:

1
Workingmanshero  Jerry Garcia Racing  Graham J 121
2
Blue Guy  Canadian Racing  Geroux F 124
3
Summertime Blues  TwinTowersRacing  Hernandez B J Jr 121
4
Ghost Star  Aandc Stable  Borel C H 124
5
Get Benched  Mb Stables  Garcia Ju A 121
6
Cube Zero  Aml Racing  Bridgmohan S X 121
7
 Withdrawn  John Henry  Leparoux J R 121
8
Socal Man  Aer Stables  Santana R Jr 124
9
Swept Twice  Gdp Inc  Rocco J S Jr 121
10
Royal Prodigy  Mb Stables  Albarado R J 124
11
In Captivity  Mb Stables  – Scratch – 121

As I look through the field, I am intrigued by the entry of Swept Twice, for Gdp Inc. He hasn’t run all that much at this level, but he is showing improvement recently, and comes off a win at PRX in the PA Derby Classic. In that, he beat Get Benched, from Mb Stables in a tight photo. They will both be strong contenders here. Get Benched had a three race winning streak prior to that race, but like Swept Twice, he hasn’t always run at this level.

Blue Guy (Canadian Racing) and Royal Prodigy (Mb Stables) are the highest earners in this field. Blue Guy has been dropped in class at times lately, but ran very well in those optional claimers so he can still be a threat here. Royal Prodigy should be a threat, but he never wins when I pick him, so I know better.

Withdrawn (John Henry) comes into the race having faced stronger competition recently, in races like the Grade 1 Awesome Again, and should be able to get a much needed top three finish here, at least. There are no real longshots in this field.

Prediction: 7-9-5-2
