Desert Stormer Looks Like a Three Horse Race

A rather small group of sprinting fillies and mares will line up in southern California on Sunday to contest the 2018 edition of the Desert Stormer. Mb Stables has one lining up in here as he looks for his third win in a row in the race. It looks like a competitive race on paper so let’s take a look at the field.

1. Sharp Terms (11-4-3-1 $247.040), trained by Mb Stables

As Mb Stables looks for his third win in a row in the race this will be his entry to do the task. This filly already likes the track as she won her last start over this surface in an optional claimer. She’s graded stakes placed with her third place finish in the CT Oaks last fall. If she wins Mb Stables will have won three running of the race in a row.

2. Rented Mule (8-3-0-2 $168.760), trained by Angelos Stable

The young gun in the field she is the only three year old in the race. She’s ran her last four races here at SA in California bred races and was a statebred stakes winner last start. She gets a little weight break so that should only benefit her. If she can translate her statebred form she may have a chance.

3. Jenny Sunrise (18-7-1-3 $742.190), trained by Sanny Village

Basically the grandma of this field she is three years older than the next oldest filly in the field. She is definitely the classiest horse in the field. She is actually very lightly raced for her age though with only eighteen career starts. She was the Winn of the Apple Blossom Handicap but that was three years ago.

4. Capella Rising (13-5-5-1 $113.730), trained by Stone Creek Farm

After this filly broke her three race winning streak she started a three race runner up streak. She ran second in a statebred stake then had a runner up finish in the Videogenic starter stakes and finally ran second in the Whimsical stakes at WO. If she can keep her form up she will have a good chance.

5. Where To Find Me (9-4-1-0 $461.840), trained by Mb Stables

The other entry from champion trainer Mb Stables is his best shot to complete the three peat in this race. She won the Ballerina at SAR last year and was a fourth place finish in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. She definitely is fan of the seven furlong distance but if she cuts back to six furlongs she will be very live.

6. Poor Thing (13-4-4-3 $236.730), trained by Defoe

A claim in her last start she will be making the big jump in class to graded stakes company in this race. She is a stakes winner in Louisiana statebred company though so at least she has some stakes experience on her side. She will need to improve off of those recent races to win though.

Summary

To me it looks like a three horse race between the grandma Jenny Sunrise, Mb Stables Where To Find Me and the runner up killer Capella Rising. Those three definitely look toughest on paper and I think will round out the trifecta no doubt. Good luck to all the owners and horses who are in the race.
