As the horses pulled up into the starting gate on the opening day at Saratoga the skies had opened up and has poured down rain causing the main track to be muddy. As the gates opened up there was one horse who wanted the lead and she went right for it and that horse was Primera Fajita. 2 furlongs into the race she had a 1 an ¼ length lead on Crest Creepy and a 1 an ¾ lead on Special End and Zariba Fever. That first quarter of a mile was run in 22 and 4 as well. During the next 2 furlongs Primera Fajita did nothing to slow down and continued to power away from this field opening up a 3 length lead on Special End, Zariba Fever and Crest Creepy. At this point it looked as if Primera Fajita was a sure winner it was just a matter of how far. In the final 2 furlongs Nortorized Kate hit her best stride and tried to make a run at this long time leader but the run would just come up short, and Primera Fajita was able to hold on. Notorized Kate finished second, Technology Sweep closed in to finish third, and Freedom Flying came in fourth. I know there had to be some disappointed owners in this race but the top 4 owners have to be happy with how their horses ran. Let’s take a look at the breakdown of the race and the pay outs:
