Seven “older” males, if you can call a three-year-old an older male, gather at WO to test the 1 1/4 mile course in the Grade III Seagram Cup Stakes Sunday. Maxmillion Farm’s Tekkers looks to make amends for a couple of up the track performances in somewhat tougher spots. After winning the Grade II Californian Stakes at SA, the gelding went off at long odds in the Grade I Gold Cup at SA and the Grade II Suburban Handicap at BEL and lost both by a couple of lengths If he can reach back here to that Californian win, he will be standing in the winner’s circle.
Threshold’s Hooligans Holiday is another with a recent disappointment in his form. He lost by two in the Grade II San Carlos Stakes at SA in June. The difference here is that that race was only seven furlongs. In fact, seven furlongs is the farthest this horse has ever raced. He is showing signs of being interested in the longer route and could provide an upset here. By Design is the first of two entries for Mb Stables and the likely favourite off his hard-fought victory in the Bertrando Stakes at LA last out. It was only the youngster’s tenth start as he makes his way up the ladder. The other Mb Stables entry is a lightly raced maiden with only two starts. With such a limited resume, he managed an impressive third in The Pegasus Stakes at MTH last out.
John Henry’s Petrochemical came second to By Design in the Bertrando Stakes after running third in the Grade III Westchester. LionKing Stables’ Pomodoro comes off two wins in overnight events that have encouraged his connections to place him here. Nj Vets’ recent $40.000 claim Spanish Lollipops was closing well in a turf sprint last out.
