KD Turf Sprint – Grade III
6 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $500.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st The Grandmaster Team 7 Illusions Hernandez R M
The good old three year old weight allowance coupled with a very fast sprinter and the perfect trip from a horrible draw added up to a memorable win for The Grandmaster. The gelding only broke his maiden 7 months ago but since then he has been improving in leaps and bounds and will now head for the BC Turf Sprint as a strong chance.
2nd Lunar Blaze John Henry Velazquez J R
It is said that a good horse is a good horse regardless of trip at HRP and that was proven again here as Lunar Blaze went from third in the Arlington Million to second in this sprint. Pushed forward by the outside speed push he duelled with the winner all the way and only gave way inside the final furlong. An excellent effort by the router and it will be interesting to see where his trainer goes next with the five year old.
3rd Treasure Trove Mb Stables Colon L H
Came from a long way back as the only wide draw to be taken to the rear he was flying home and eventually finished third. This was another good effort from the router turned sprinter who has been super consistent this year but has yet to win a race.
4th Derby Pip RNP Stables Centeno D E
On the pace but just whacked away at the one pace on the soft track. Like the third placed runner he is struggling to win after a good start to the year but has run some very good races in top company.
