Mrs Revere (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
November 23, 2018
Part of Saturday’s card at CD will be the 16th running of the Grade 2 Mrs Revere Stakes. It is one of the few remaining graded stakes that allow three year olds to continue to compete against their own age group, and it is run at 8.5 furlongs, over the turf. The race has been won by some of the greats of this division, including Halfbaked and Millionaire Heiress, among others. None of the fillies in this race can call themselves one of the greats, as not that surprisingly, none of them ran in the BC earlier this month, but there is still plenty of time for them to become a great. A win here, in what is a very balanced field overall, could be a nice first step in doing so. Expect to be entertained by this race, as it really can go any way. Who will get that perfect trip? Let’s meet the runners!
#1- Blue Jeans (First Class Stable, ridden by R J Albarado)- Comes into this race out of the Grade 3 Valley View at KEE last month. Prepare yourself now to hear a lot about that race over the course of the preview since we have four runners here who ran in it. For Blue Jeans, it was also her turf debut, and she did well to come from off the pace to finish second to Moon Car, who is further down the starting gate here. She’s been on the cusp of a big win for a while so the move to the grass may be what it takes. We’ll see how it goes again.
#2- Daliterri Girl (Our Athletes, ridden by J R Velazquez)- While others in here were running at KEE for the Valley View, Daliterri Girl was one of two in this field who went out west for the Grade 3 Autumn Miss at SA, a race that she would win. That race is a little shorter then this one, but the slightly longer distance should actually be to her liking. In her last three starts, she has been on great form, finishing in the top two in each, but it has been a while since he has seen a field of this size, too.
#3- Chateau de Chambord (John Henry, ridden by A A Gallardo)- This Hardline filly will be looking to earn her second win of the season, and in the process get the biggest win of her career. Other then disappointing finish at the Grade 1 BEL Oaks, Chateau de Chambord has been very consistent in finishing near the front. She recovered well from the BEL Oaks, and will seek to follow up a second place run on soft turf at the Grade 1 First Lady. While she likes to come from off the pace, a key to her success may be not falling too far behind early.
#4- Harsh (Mb Stables, ridden by P Lopez)- This one will probably be going out to the lead early, and when you look around for his other entry or entries to whom it may be helping, you’ll realize he has no other runners here, and that Harsh simply does her best work while on the lead. Had a couple of nice wins during the summer, but lately things have not gone her way. She has tried some top quality races, though, including the Grade 1 Taylor where she faded late.
#5- Blonde Art (First Class Stable, ridden by B J Hernandez Jr)- So, when was the last time that First Class Stable had more entries in a graded stake then Mb Stables? Blonde Art comes out of the Autumn Miss, the race that was won by Daliterri Girl. Blonde Art ran fourth that day. She ended up being a very good claim this spring, and won her first two races with First Class, though both being on off tracks. She is three-for-three when it is wet for her career. Take that out, and she looks a little more pedestrian. 10% chance of rain here on Friday. Still capable, though.
#6- Moon Car (Crocker Ggs, ridden by E A Moran)- Ran in the Grade 3 Valley View last month, and came out on top, defeating three that she will see in this race. That win was not a “one off” though, as Moon Car has been driving a great run of form in her last four starts. As can often be the case, the streak began modestly, with a TUP allowance win, but that win led to increased confidence, and a win in the Grade 3 Regret, which was also her grass debut, a month later. No reason to think she cannot get it done again today.
#7- Sweet Gail (Sccj Stables, ridden by C Landeros)- Appeared in the Valley View as well, but was not successful, managing just a sixth place finish. That is where she has finished in her last three starts, and some might say that is a rather dark omen. In the last two of those races, she ran with lasix, something she had not done previously. At press time, she is scheduled to not be on it, and that should be a good thing. Expect improvement, but a win might be too much to ask.
#8- Snacks (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by R Bejarano)- Beginning this Spring, Snacks began to show her potential for her trainer and that led to her being placed in bigger and better races. Her first graded effort saw her place fifth in the Providencia Stakes at KEE. Two races later, she was second right here in the ET Mint Julep (Grade 2) Handicap, and it would be off to the Diana (Grade 1) at the Spa after that. Her results began to hit a speed bump, but thankfully she was able to return to the winners circle in her last start, the Grade 3 Athenia. This is a field she is very capable of beating and could determine whether its Grade 1’s or Grade 3’s next for her, and in the near future.
#9- Nancy Broom Moytoy- Scratched
#10- Swept Sideways (Estero Farms, ridden by I Ortiz Jr)- This Pay The Winner filly has not gone long all that much in her career, but her three starts in doing so have been successful. Her best win to date, the $75.000 Miss Liberty was at the distance that she will run here. Graded attempts have not been her best, but not have been terrible. One would think that she will need to show improvement form the low 90 SRF’s that she has had lately in order to be a threat here. I like that she tends to be near the front, but don’t think much more should be expected out of her.
#11- Infrastructure (Our Athletes, ridden by F Pennington)- The great F Pennington will be able to overcome the undesirable starting position here for Our Athletes, so expect those two factors to cancel one another out. Her last run was also the Grade 3 Valley View, and in it she ran third, two lengths behind Moon Car. She had a nice stretch of races immediately after she was aquired in private sales, taking four of five, but has not been back to the winners circle since. Like others in this evenly matched field, she looks like she should be near the leaders at the end, but will she have a good trip in the stretch?
