Today It Was Summertime in Silverbulletday Stakes

Silverbulletday Stakes (KYO)- $150.000 Purse
FG- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and Seventy Yards on the Dirt
January 19, 2019

The rain came, but not as much as it seemed as though there would be based on the earlier forecasts. The track was listed as good for the race. It’d be wet enough to keep me from saying that I picked the winner, as Summertime was my dry track selection, I was going with Whispered on an off track. Honestly, I probably still would have gone Summertime on a good track, but that’s all in hindsight and not what I said in the prediction. Oh well, it doesn’t matter for trainer D J C Racing Stables, who saw his Snowmizer filly pick up the second win of her career, and his second win in the stake. Back in 2016, he won with Looknlisten. D J C was also nominated as a candidate for trainer of the year, so congratulations on that as well. The winning jockey was C Hill, their first such win in the stake. The race went in a time of 1:41.44. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :24.40)- It’s a good start for both Artificial, out of Mb Stables, and the longshot Latin Heat, for Treaux Farms. The two of them clear the rest of the field by almost two lengths as they made their way around the opening turn. As that run began, we would see Cover Girl made an assertive push to be the near the front while running four wide. She was not immediately strong from the gate, but was determined to move up at this point and would become third, a head in front of Blondewithhandcuffs, for Mb Stables. Panentheism was close by here as well, for Smokey Stover. Behind them by nearly a length, Summertime, our eventual winner from D J C Racing Stables paced herself comfortably on the rail. Americana (Sccj Stables) and Whispered (Mb Stables) would be to her outside. There would be a gap of about two more lengths to the trailers: Vamparina (Aer Stables), Up And Good (Joshua Stables), and Ice Cream Truck (First Street Stables).

(½ Mile- :48.38)- We get some excitement over the second quarter of the race as this time, Blondewithhandcuffs was the filly on the move, answering the charge of Cover Girl to her outside with a push of her own. This put them within a length of the two pace setters, Artificial and Latin Heat. After that, things were a little more laid back. Whispered would run fifth, but not be concerned with the front four, as she was three and a half lengths from the lead, and a length and a half ahead of a threesome that continued to include Summertime. Americana and Panentheism ran with her. At the back, Vamparina, Up And Good, and Ice Cream Truck waited for their time to strike.

(Top Of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Completing the backstretch run, and making their way around the turn, Mb Stables had to be very happy with how Artificial was handling the field. She put away Latin Heat, as that one was looking quite fatigued at this point. She had a two length lead and didn’t really look as though she was weakening any. Cover Girl was second now, but had not made up any ground, and giving how much extra race track she had covered in the each turn, it would be tough on her. Blondewithhandcuffs was slipping back. Whispered and Panentheism, at this point, looked as though they could be the biggest threats. Summertime was still on the rail, and had not really shown her cards yet. She still had four and a half lengths to make up, and potentially had a wall of horses right in front of her. Vamparina was advancing a bit, as well. Americana wasn’t showing much response quite yet anyway, and neither Up And Good nor Ice Cream Truck were looking like threats.

(Finish- 1:41.44)- With a furlong left in the stretch, Artificial was still running decently, but had challengers coming. Her stablemate, Whispered looked like the biggest threat, and Panentheism had advanced as well. However, Summertime was now starting to lurk as a major player. She had been able to utilize the lane that Latin Heat had faded from, and with a furlong remaining, she was preparing to split both Whispered and Panentheism. Certainly, she looked like she would be able to slide into second at this point, but could she get the leader? Well, before you could even blink, she was in the lead, needing only half a furlong to assume the lead, and it was time to give the field the slip. Trainer D J C Racing Stables has to be thrilled not only with the win, but the manner in which his filly won, it was quite impressive. Artificial does hang on to second, with Panentheism getting third, half a length ahead of Whispered. Vamparina ran well to be fifth, but ran out of race track. Blondewithhandcuffs and Cover Girl each turn in decent performances better then the race line will show. The rest of the field: Up And Good, Americana, Ice Cream Truck, and Latin Heat were disappointments.

About The Winner- Summertime, trained by D J C Racing Stables, and ridden to victory by C Hill, is a three year old filly by Snowmizer, and is out of Strike Accord. She was bred in New York by D J C Racing Stables as a first quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in six starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $186.300.
