Clementine Cottage gives us one of the best weight carrying performances so far this year

The Birdstone
1 1/2 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $100.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st Clementine Cottage, trained by A And I Stables

This was a huge weight carrying performance by this four year old especially considering he made every yard of the running. Lonely throughout he had secured a big enough break to hold on by just shy of a length and puts himself right in the picture for the BC Marathon if his trainer decides on that route. In scoring his eleventh career win he was giving the runner up a massive eleven pounds and here at HRP that is worth a good few lengths so make no mistake this was a big win.

2nd Contract Killer, trained by Diablo Diablo

Whilst the winner put up a big run so did this three year old having his first start in a black type race. He showed in his run up win that he liked a test of stamina and as he flew home from the trail one has to think he is better than his efforts to date. It will be interesting to see how he progresses with this run under his belt

3rd Socal Man, trained by Mb Stables

I was a little harsh on this one in my assessment of his chances but the fact that a free track claiming winner that had been beaten in claimers for most of his career started favourite for this race was farcical enough without seeing him win. He in fact ran a great race considering his form prior to this race staying on well to be a close third suggesting that he isn’t far from this type of grade if he is giving another chance by his trainer.

4th Mambo Madness, trained by Dagg Ranch

Held a good enough position during the race but found little when asked and ended up a disappointing fourth. I think he will win more races in overnights but this looked a step too far for him in the end.

5th Remember The Dragon

I think this race may have spelled the end of this nice horses very good career. Never really in it he faded to end up a lack lustre fifth.

6th Steady Simon

Beaten twenty two lengths in last this was a terrible run and it does make you question the way some horses get beat especially considering he had won a decent race at SAR last time out.
