Talk about getting the full ” Spa ” treatment here at Saratoga, Angelos Stables three year old filly out of Broomstick Prince wins her second affair in three starts since joining the stable, and is three for four at the mile over the grass.
- Lake George – Grade III Purse $150.000
- Saratoga Racecourse – For Three year old fillies
- Eight Furlongs – Inner Turf course
This is definitely a filly that Nakamura Stables would have liked to have kept protected back in April. Even money post time favorite Rules Are Madness had her way here on Friday taking quickly to the lead with a 23 and one opening quarter, then stretching out the margin to a little better then three lengths for the next two fractions. She would have some late interest in the final sixteenth of a mile, but would hang on for a one length advantage. She is having an amazing season with four wins in five starts, and a runner-up placing to add to that as well. Has not missed a top three placing in all seven of her turf events, with a record of ( 4-2-1 ). Now has the Gr. III Lake George title, NYSS-Joy title, as well as a runner-up in the Mount Vernon to one who has come back to capture the Gr. III Eatontown Stakes. She has a total of four points in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf category, and it will be interesting if she focuses on The First Lady in October at Keenland, with a few milers on the grass in between.
Closing up ground smart down the lane was number two Scandalous Ways for Nakamura Stables. Trainer definitely knew what he was up against with the winner of this affair, but instructions sent out with rider Saez worked to perfection. This bay filly out of Braveheart must be getting tired of being a maid of honor in her past three events. While two earlier tries at the Graded company level on the dirt left her buried in the sand, she has a good feel for the grass with a record of 7 ( 3-3-0 ), having only missed when she tried to steal on the front. Will be interesting to see were she looks for her next event.
The final runner in the top three would be Allinthegate’s Queen Command. Let go at almost 24-1 odds on the fact it was here first try on the sod, tracing back her dam and grand dam, they both worked well over the surface even though they were never tested in race trim. Trainer may focus her half brother Macedonian Moon towards the grass after this effort, as he has two victories himself at the mile on the surface. If she stays put, the Riskaverse maybe a good fit next month.
Rounding out the field would be Aer Stables Diamond Di who was looking like she had the show money in hand, but just got nipped in a photo and would settle for the final share. Her rider Franco took four of the earlier races on the day. Court Jester Racing’s Major Ballerina would finish fifth. While she has only had two starts on the dirt in her career, her efforts were keen and works have also been sharp. Would like to see her build on her Hilltop Stakes victory, and i think a mile and a sixteenth or an eighth on the dirt could bring home a win. Surprisingly, Mb Stables Quick Fix may need just what her name states. The only runner in this affair to go plus 1:34 for the mile, she may need a rest spell or possibly her rider who didn’t live up to his riding style was not the perfect fit. Has earned four points as well for the BC F&M Turf event, so trainer may still feel the need to keep her keen and in the hunt.
