Looking all the champion she is in this affair, Di Magni ( Gdp Inc ) would show she had what was needed to get to the winners enclosure by strategicly getting to the wire on time.
- The Matchmaker Gr. III Purse $150.000
- Monmouth Park – For Fillies & Mares Three years old and Up
- One Mile and an eighth – Turf Course
While Number Nine was in full control of this event throughout, she would find herself just a bit short as the eventual winner came calling at the right time. The victory is now Di Magni’s third win in nine career starts, bringing her earnings to just shy of $180.000.
Being it was only her third career start, Number Nine not only got the backing of the general public at the wickets, but she also impressed this writer completely. While many trainers don’t like to send their runners to the lead, this was definitely the right move for this daughter of Niner Forty Niner. Its obvious she learned from the Dance Smartly race, and we may see her go out on top next race at possibly a slightly shorter affair.
Third behind this duo was Threshold’s Bach In Tune who made a gallant effort as well to close late. Rider Bejarano already had two wins earlier on the card, and was trying a similar effort as she ran in the China Doll, only missing here by a quarter of a length or one tenth of a second. Nine panels seems to be her field of choice.
Finally Chai Express ( Hambletonian Stables ) was left to keep the pace honest with her following the early speed up front. Only slipped in the very latter stages of this race, just three quarters of a length out. This was just her first try at a stakes title, and her trainer should be quite proud of her efforts for this race.
