A win against similar in the FL Sire Stakes-Vixen made Stolen Secret the logical favourite to double up on Saturday in the Susan going a furlong longer and the daughter of Steel His Fate did not disappoint, ralling smartly to score her fourth win in a row over impressive maiden winner Regal Portrait. Clearly one of the better juvenile fillies at HRP right now, she was able to sit a nice trip behind battling leaders and looks poised to move forward on the road to KEE, and a date with the top echelons in the BC.
Florida Vacation (10.65) broke very well in the Susan and assumed the early lead from her outside stall but Regal Portrait (4.00) tracked her early and was able to clear down to the rail to save some much needed ground. Stolen Secret (*1.25) was left wide through an opening quarter-mile in 23.17 as the dueling leaders sprinted almost three-lengths clear and heading into the far turn, Florida Vacation looked quite good up front with an inside trip to aide her speed. But the half-mile rang up in a very quick 46.21 and that made the leaders vulnerable and when the field swung into the lane, the stalkers started to make their moves, led by a resurgent Stolen Secret. With just over a furlong to go, Florida Vacation was all out to hold the lead with Regal Portrait stalling and Star Attraction (2.75) trying to close inside and then outside but with all the momentum, Stolen Secret was able to sweep to victory with a few strides left and wound up a neck to the good with Regal Portrait a close second. Muchokova (9.75) came rocketing up the inside to grab third money from a tired Florida Vacation with Star Attraction a stalled fifth, while Angies Curry (59.70) and Marketing Trip (12.40) both ran to their odds and never really got into contention after breaking slowly.
Last year, Team Nebraska turned back-to-back wins in the FL Sire Stakes program into a pair of Grade I wins and while Stolen Secret might not be at that level yet, she did run her winning streak to four with another sharp score on Saturday from just off the early pace. Distance will be a question mark for this filly, as will the increase in weights, but she certainly has every right to go forward in the My Dear to complete the treble, or take one a guaranteed spot in the BC Juvenile Fillies by heading north for the Grade I Frizette.
Congratulations goes out to owner Alydar Stables and their two-year-old filly Stolen Secret, a last stride winner of the FL Sire Stakes-Susan at GP!
