Four Way Conundrum in La Lorgnette

La Lorgnette Stakes

1 Mile and 1/16th, purse: $125.000, for three year old fillies

1 Behrens Bride, trained by Big Jd Racing

One of the most successful offspring of Charming Beherens she has been close to the top of the fillies tree for a while now. Her journey began as a two year old when, after two game wins she managed a placing in two graded stakes. Those wins put her on the KYO trail but she took a while to find her feet as a three year old cashing checks in five stakes races in the first half of the year but with no winning form. She hit her stride in the grade one Mother Goose and did the same when following up in the grade one CCA Oaks which on the face of it looked like she was heading for the top of the fillies tree. However a closer look at those two great wins shows us that both were on a slushy surface so when she came out in the grade one Alabama last time there was questions about her ability on a better surface that needed answering. She ran well but ended up a well beaten seventh so those questions remain as she lines up today carrying a big weight penalty for those grade one wins. The facts look pretty clear to me, if it rains she wins despite her weight, if it doesn’t then she may find her class may be stifled.

2 Eviction, trained by Mb Stables

Another from the endless supply of horses from this huge stable she is a long way from being stable star but has been working pretty well and seems a consistent sort. She hasn’t shown any form at this level but that seems unimportant these days so on her trainer alone you have to take a serious look at her but for me she is a speculative entry rather than a serious chance.

3 Unsecured, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Lightly raced she has proven to be useful in this company and comes here with a useful weight concession off of the principals despite a stakes win. She won the Bison City on this track but ran probably her best race when a close fourth in the grade two Gazelle. I am not sure her trainer has found her best surface yet and that worries me a little as her dirt works aren’t terribly strong but she must have a chance on a track she clearly likes.

4 Hellonheels, trained by Wolf Ridge Stables

Another that picks up the full penalty after a win in the grade 3 Alexander she disappointed when aimed at the KYO and has been struggling to recapture that form ever since. On levels with good form and decent works you would give her a chance but the weight may be her biggest enemy.

SUMMARY

A race with question marks on all the runners it is tough to be too confident, in the crazy world of HRP it may be Eviction who provides the value
