Large Purse Awaits My Dear Winner

The FL Sire Stakes- My Dear- $500.000 Purse
GP- For Fillies and Mares Foaled in FL
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
October 3, 2015

There was some question as to whether or not the My Dear, part of the FL Sire Stakes was going to fill, even with the highest purse that the race has ever seen.  Fortunately, we were able to get a field of at least four to vie for the $500.000 purse.   This sees a $150.000 increase from the monies awarded last year, and are a record high for the race.  It did run for five years at a $400.000 purse.  The FL Sire Stakes have seen some good races on the filly side, with two such races won by Stolen Secret.  She will be running in the Grade 1 Frizette at BEL, and may be the horse to beat in that race.   Last year, Eva the Diva was the winner and she has gone on to some good things and is now a graded stake winner.  Two years ago, the race was won by Short Dog, who was able to bypass the fields of the Frizette or Alciblaides that year due to having won the DMR Debutante earlier in the year.  She was able to win this purse, and still go into the Juvenile Fillies and beat all those horses that had been running the bigger graded races the same weekend.  None of the four in this field have that same luxury.   This is only the second time the race has been run at GP, having been run at CRC in all of the previous years.  In those years, no trainer has won this race more then once.   Here now, are the four to going to post.

#1- Angies Curry (Night Rider Stables, ridden by H Hernandez)- The trainer has been determined to get this filly to win a big race, and will be hoping that the added distance is the recipe for her to get it.    She has run against statebred company her entire career except one race, but only has a maiden win to show for it.   Angies Curry attempted the two main FL Sire Stakes races before this one, the Vixen and the Susan and was 6th of 6 and 6th of 7 in those two races.  She also ran in the $250.000 and finished 10th of 12.  I do not think this trend will change in this race.

#2- Dogs Money Maka (Australia Wide, ridden by R S Sanchez)- The last time we saw this Dogs Found Money filly (and so far she has been his only noteworthy Money Maka), she finished 5th in the Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga, for Teamf Racing.  The very next day, Teamf sold her off to Australia Wide for $200.000, giving the legendary trainer yet another talented young filly for his stable.  Now we will see if Australia Wide can get this filly back to the winners circle, but I am skeptical about her chances here.  Although the conformation says she should like the distance, the mile work time she put together at PRX recently will need to be a bit faster.

#3- Muchokova (Blushing Meadows, ridden by J C Caraballo)- This filly by Mucho Tiempo Semana has raced three times so far, starting her career modestly before an impressive performance in the Susan, part of the FL Sire Stakes.  She was third for that one here at GP last month, and did so while coming strong at the end.  While Regal Portrait was also in that race and finished a spot better, its worth noting that she gained two lengths on her in the final furlong, so a little more distance could be very beneficial for her.  I believe that she is going to be fine with this added distance, and might emerge as one to watch in a few months when her three year old campaign begins.

#4- Regal Portrait (Mb Stables, ridden by M Mena)- She too, participated in the Susan, and just missed beating out Stolen Secret that day.  Regal Portrait was second in that race, and missed by less then a length.  So while Stolen Secret heads to the Frizette, Regal Potrait seemingly becomes the horse to beat in this race.  She has the fastest mile work of anyone in this field, with an outstanding performance at BEL.  She has been at BEL for two weeks now, so we have to wonder if Mb Stables called an audible with her at the last minute to be out of the Frizette, and into this race seeing that this race with the high purse was in danger of not filling.  If so, then it becomes another example of why he is one of the best trainers the game has seen.  Muchokova isn’t going to make things easy on her, but I like Regal Portrait here.

Prediction: 4-3-2-1
