Lullaby Maker Tf Sings Sweetly in Spinster

October 7, 2015

The Grade I Spinster assembled one of the best fields of Distaff runners outside of the BC and in truly blanket finish, it was Lullaby Maker Tf who emerged victorious in Grade I company for the second straight start, outlasting both Sinissippi Delite and an on-rushing Lingerie Fantasy for a nose decision. A daughter of Megalomaniac, who produced BC Turf Sprint winner Jamfest, she was purchased in June for more than $150.000, but has earned all of that back and then some with four straight wins and two triple-digit speed ratings including this 100-mark earned for the toughest win of her career.

The two outside runners in the Spinster broke completely differently and as Short Dog (42.00) trailed to the back of the field, Baked Bread (6.30) rocketed to command and quickly took the lead over Quiet Elegance (5.75) and Kentucky Fried Chick (28.60) inside. But as the inside speed held the leader wide, it created a false sense up front and Baked Bread took almost three-furlongs, and a lot of energy, to get down to a two-wide path. Sinissippi Delite (5.20) held a nice three-wide spot into the backstretch while Lullaby Maker Tf (4.75) used an off-the-pace tactic from the rail but as the group passed the half-mile in 47.77, everyone seemed to find their place. As the field marched to the far turn, Sinnissippi Delite looked to have the most momentum on the outside and ranged into contention with Quiet Elegance backing away, Lingerie Fantasy (*3.30) crying for room and Baked Bread looking tired from her tough run. Through six-panels in 1:11.68, Lullaby Maker Tf had found her run and came up to engage new leader Sinissippi Delite and as those two sprinted away at the head of the lane, Lingerie Fantasy had found a way through in a wall of five runners behind them. As the two leaders strained for the wire, the inside speed of Lullaby Maker Tf got the better trip and while Lingerie Fantasy flew late, she came up a whisker short for the second time this season as the Personal Ensign winner made it back to back Grade I wins. Sinissippi Delite earned third money and possibly enough points to earn her way back into the BC Distaff field, while A Class Angie flew for fourth after getting caught behind tiring rivals and will be much better suited come October 30. Ouija Boardd (7.25) was no threat in fifth and passed Quiet Elegance late, Kentucky Fried Chick and Baked Bread both backed up after being up near the front, and the real disappointment was Short Dog, who never took a forward step and was badly beaten in a truly tough loss.

While others have more points than her, Lullaby Maker Tf might well be the favourite for the BC Distaff off an impressive score in the Grade I Spinster, made all the more impressive by the fact that she had the rail and could have led but chose to close into the pace instead. That versatility will prove very effective over this course when a championship is on the line, in a race that pits duel Grade I winners Rosemari Perfect and Behrens Bride against her.

Congratulations goes out to owner Team 7 Illusions and their three-year-old filly Lullaby Maker Tf, a rousing winner of the Grade I Spinster at KEE!
