Ubet Sheza Queen came into the Pebbles with the most impressive last out performance and after stalking favourite Alayne into the lane, the three-year-old daughter of Plucky Dogma cruised past en route to her first added-money score by just over a length. Perfectly handled all season by new owner Ubetracing.com, the impressive PA-bred now sports four wins and four seconds from eight seasonal starts and nearly $250.000 in earnings, along with six straight speed ratings of 90 or more.
It was an even break from the gate for all five involved in the Pebbles but Ubet Sheza Queen (3.85) eventually found her way to the front with Alayne (*2.30) a close second inside and Sankee Lady (2.75) third from her wide draw but as the field marched through the opening split of 23.95, the favourite was hellbent on the lead and sprinted two-lengths to the good. By the time the quintet hit the far turn, it was quite spread out with Alayne in full command and when the half-length came up in 47.50, it was clear that she was going for broke against a field that needed some momentum. Ubet Sheza Queen inched up into second as La Flama (3.80) tracked her inside and while everyone started to take closer order, Alayne still looked solid despite six-furlongs in a testing 1:10.55. The field lined up in a V-formation with the leader inside, two fanned out and two fanned in and with a furlong to go, the middle of the track was the place to be as Ubet Sheza Queen sprinted to the front with Alayne unable to go with her. At the wire, the margin of victory was a length with the long time leader hanging for second, just ahead of La Flama as she battled past Sankee Lady late, with Tannery (4.00) a lackluster last from start to finish.
Ubet Sheza Queen has been first or second in all seven starts on the grass and now, can make her claim to being a stakes winner with a sharp score in the Pebbles over the BEL turf. There are a lot of nice options for her as the season winds down but she looks like a viable candidate for a race like the Grade III My Charmer, only slightly tougher than this and with the handicap option should be big fillies and mares enter.
Congratulations goes out to owner Ubetracing.com and their three-year-old filly Ubet Sheza Queen, a clear winner of the Pebbles at BEL!
