Purse $250.00 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward Foaled In NY
1 Baked Bean, trained by DJC Racing Stables This four year old was progressing well after a slow start to her career running very consistently this year and managing an easy win in the listed SAR Dew. That easy all the way win and some decent performances in overnights prompted her trainer to take on the grade one Spinster but her form came a bit unravelled in that race and she faded away like a filly that was outclassed. Ignoring that disappointing run she would have a chance today but you would have to write that off and have a good reason for it to fancy her here.
2 La Gran Kirky, trained by Australia Wide Something strange went on with this filly back in April after two good performances at graded level she was bought by Pan Farms from M b o Racing Stable for $200. There was nothing strange about that as she was clearly a good sort who was working strongly but what was strange was that just a few weeks later she was sold for half that to Australia Wide. There was nothing to suggest she had lost her value so we would be left to assume a closed doors deal was made, one that has reaped some rewards for her new trainer. A good win in the listed Critical Eye was followed up with an easy open allowance win and although both were in small fields she meets similar conditions today and must have a very strong chance of making it three from three for the new owner.
3 Sirens Blaring, trained by D J C Racing Stables This filly has been lightly raced since a strong two year old campaign saw her win and finish a close second in a couple of non graded stakes races. Her three year old career got off to a great start as she landed her first four races including the grade three Fantasy and DEL Oaks. In between those wins she changed hands for $410 which looked a fair price considering her short and successful career. Her last start was in the grade one Cotillion where her finishing position of eighth was better than it looked on paper as she was only beaten two lengths and had got stuck at the back of a big field. She has beaten La Gran Kirky before so there is no reason to thin she cant do it again but I am a bit worried about her average works since her last start.
4 Well In Line, trained by Mb Stables With just three starts and a win last time out in a 3 runner maiden you wouldn’t give this one much chance unless we were at HRP, but the very fact we are means this one has a real hope of yet another stakes win for Mb Stables. Her works are very much in the ball park of the top fillies and of course her trainer has a little experience in winning with lightly raced horses that look in over their head so if you ignore the form book and look at works and the trainer she could easily be the top choice.
5 Love Me Do, trained by Maverick Racing Rounding off the field is yet another decent three year old who has every chance in an even field. Bought for $250 she has managed a third in the grade one Mother Goose and a win in the listed OK Classic Distaff making that a very fair price. If there is anything against her it is the fact that she can put in the odd poor run so you have to trust that despite some ordinary works and a run just a week ago she is ready to run her best. It is that game win just over a week ago that is sounding alarm bells for me and this race may just come a bit quick for her.
SUMMARY
With the four year old giving weight I think we can write her off and with Love Me Do running just a week ago we could do the same which leaves three runners with a winning chance. Taking out Well In Line because of a lack of stakes experience we are left with a match between La Gran Kirky and Sirens Blaring. I think maybe Sirens Blaring may just edge out the Australia Wide filly but it could go either way. |
