The Iroqouis, Purse $150, Ungrded, 6 and ½ furlongs, Dirt for 3+ Fillies and Mares
This weekend is the calm before the storm of the Breeders Cup so the stakes action is lighter then normal. Today at Belmont we have a series of NY bred stakes races which include this one for filly and mare dirt sprinters Let’s take a look at the field and see if we can separate some of these runners :
1-Queen Of Batavia (MB Stables)- She comes into the race having run 6 times with 3 wins a second and a third. She was claimed for $15 in the race where she broke her maiden by the current owner MB stables and she has been moved up the class ladder. The first start under new connections was a win in a $35 claimer sprinting on the turf. She also won her most recent start when she got back to sprinting on dirt in an allowance race. She seems to get getting faster as she is growing and is taking on stakes company for the first time.
2-Cluthch Situation (D J C Racing Stables)- She has started 17 times with 8 wins. The problem none of these wins have come in her 4 year olds season where she is 0-6 with a second place finish. Now most of these starts have come at the graded level so she is dropping in class today. She has shown the ability to win at this level winning several stakes in 2014 in her perfect 8-8 season. She hopes the drop in class will wake her back up.
3-Chef Angelina Maragh (Night Rider Stables)- She has started 8 times with 2 wins a second and 2 thirds in her career. She has raced 6 times against NY breds and broke through for a 2 race win streak 2 and 3 races back. The wins came in a MSW and an Allowance race and were both sprinting on the dirt. Off the win streak she was shipped in against open company in an allowance race and ran 5th losing by a length. Moving back in against state bred company could be the trick.
4- Blarney Bee (Smokey Stover)- She has started 14 times with 6 wins 3 seconds and 3 thirds in her racing career. She is 4-8 in 2015 in comes into this race on a nice 2 race win streak with both of those wins coming sprinting on the dirt. The first of those wins was going today’s distance in a similar type race at Saratoga. She followed that up with a similar type effort in an allowance race at RP. The horse is clearly in form and has shown the ability to win at this level recently and has to be one that is looked at.
5-Sense Of Stile (Cajun Stables)- She has started 12 times and has won 5 of those starts with 2 seconds in her racing career. Her wins for 2015 came back early in the year when she started off winning 3 of her first 4 races of 2015. Those wins came in overnight stakes sprinting on the dirt including 2 for state bred horses. After those wins she was really stepped up the class ladder when she ran in 4 consecutive Grade 1 races not hitting the board. She is dropping back down to a level where she is more comfortable and hopes that this will get her back to her winning ways
This is a nice state bred stakes race that has some horses with some class coming into the race. I could see the results going a number of different directions. With that said here is my prediction: 5-4-3-2
