Well that was about as close as you can come to a dead-head without having one…  General White closed well and just nosed out pace setter Brumeii Bachelor by the slimmest of margins, taking the Twilight Derby (GII) at SA in a final time of 1:46.11 for the mile mile and an eighth distance, on the firm SA turf course.

The field of four were off in good order with Brumeii Bachelor away well, General White from the far outside, Gran Gullis from between that pair and Akasaka was the early trailer.

Under the wire the first time by and seven furlongs left to run, Brumeii Bachelor with a three length lead.  General White two lengths in front of Gran Gullis and Akasaka could seem them all, seven lengths from the leader.

Around the clubhouse turn and moving down the backside and past the half-mile marker, Brumeii Bachelor on cruise control and in front by five.  General White trying to keep pace, the a gap of three back to Akasaka and Gran Gullis was now at the rear, nine lengths from the front end.

The field made their way around the far turn and to the top of the lane, and now just three-sixteenth’s of a mile to run, Brumeii Bachelor was still in front by three but General White was now being asked and responded to cut into that lead.  It was four back to Akasaka and Gran Gullis, both with a ton of work to do.

Deep stretch and to the wire, Brumeii Bachelor in front, General White now cutting back to the inside and gaining with every stride, and as the hit the wire it was bang-bang and the PHOTO sign was lit on the tote board.  After viewing the photograph, General White did nail Brumeii Bachelor in the final stride and took the win.  It was three lengths back to Akasaka in third and Gran Gullis closed this one out.
