Risen Angel Rises To The Top In Ticonderoga

October 27, 2015

Risen Angel was clearly the class of the Ticonderoga field, having just finished second in the Grade I First Lady at KEE, and she used that advantage and the final 1 1/16 of a mile to run down a loose-on-the-lead The Generals Out and score her second stakes win of the season. A daughter of multiple Grade I winner Risen Ruler, she has shown great promise since moving to the grass and now sports three wins in four starts over the surface and more than $410.000 in total earnings to date.

Although Midwest Metal (*0.50) might have been expected to go out and lead the Ticonderoga, it was The Generals Out (207.10) who took the advantage early and sprinted a length clear from Risen Angel (1.65) in second. Everyone seemed to settle into a groove through the opening split of 24.11, with Angelinas Bankroll (5.45) angled out into the two-wide path for what looked like an early run at the leader. Risen Angel gave way to Midwest Metal down the backstretch and that left The Generals Out with a 3.5-length lead and as the quartet marched through a half-mile in 47.71, it was clear that the fractions were on the side of the leader with little to no resistance. Four-lengths in front heading into the far turn, The Generals Out looked in complete control and while she drifted out slightly past six-furlongs in 1:10.91, she was still well within herself at the head of the lane with only Angelinas Bankroll making a serious bid out wide. But as always with the BEL stretch, strides began to shorten and the leader looked vulnerable and while Angelinas Bankroll did come with a run, it was Risen Angel who swooped up in the last jump to win by a neck over The Generals Out, with Angelinas Bankroll a neck back in third and Midwest Metal a neck back of her in fourth.

A stakes winner at SAR and a nose from Grade I glory last time out, Risen Angel was all heart in the Ticonderoga and got up just in time to record her fifth win in eight starts this year, and fourth in her last five. She will now have to face older rivals if she wants to add further stakes glory to her resume and off this win, the My Charmer Handicap at CRC seems fitting with the added distance very much in her favour.

Congratulations goes out to owner D J C Racing Stable and their three-year-old filly Risen Angel, a last jump winner of the Ticonderoga at BEL!
