Will the Turf Suit The Belle Tolls in San Clemente Stakes?

San Clemente Stakes – Grade II
DMR Race #6 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Shalakar John Henry Maldonado E

She was claimed a couple of times when dropped to claimers in the spring but the gap between claimers and stakes races is next to nothing as shown in her next two starts so nothing should be taken from that. She was a good fifth in the Soaring Softly the time before last and ran well enough at allowance level last time out so she isn’t out of it but one feels she will have to up her game to win today.

2 Freaking Me Out Mb Stables – Scratch –

3 Czarina La Canada Racehorses Valdivia J Jr

Her winning rate is very nice with five from eleven and she sits here very nicely from a great draw. She was good in the Eatontown last time coming home a one length winner and once again recorded a speed figure in the 90’s which has been a consistent performance figure in her recent races. Not as fast a worker as some here but good enough from this draw to be a chance.

4 Shes A Native Mb Stables Pereira T J

She has been tested since taking the Senorita Stakes but came up a little short in both the Gamely and the Dance Smartly but that may be down to her stamina limitations as much as anything. Her works have been very sharp but that’s not unusual for horses from this stable and she will carry plenty of admirers and may well go off favorite to win.

5 Sheza Kat Running Farms Smith M E

Bought at auction for $99 she had been running very well but just not getting her timing right in some good races prior to that. She finished in front of Shalakar and a whisker behind Charity Jane in the Soaring Softly back in March so there is very little between them again. Though she was beaten at allowance level last time the race was won in a sub 1.33 time so that wouldn’t be a disadvantage. Another winning chance.

6 Intanga Rose D J C Racing Stables Fuentes Ru

She has been out working her racecourse performances but that’s not unusual at HRP but there is enough to like about her to give her a chance. Only lightly raced she has won three from six including The Hilltop the time before last but she was a little exposed in the NY Stallion Joy over a shorter trip last time. A chance but i am not sold on her yet.

7 Charity Jane RNP Stables Rispoli U

Started the year winning a ten dollar maiden claimer but that doesn’t mean much at HRP and she has since gone on to very nearly win the Soaring Softly at grade three so we can probably ignore her form before April this year. She definitely has a chance on that grade three run but there isn’t much else to go on.

8 Di Tripazini Gdp Inc Velez J I

Beat Clarity Jane in the Wild Applause last time so on that form line has the beating of most of this field She looks strong on most fronts but the draw may test her although with a late running style it may not do her chances too much harm. A tough and consistent sort who as long as the race engine lets her may be the answer in a tricky race,

9 The Belle Tolls Allinthegate Franco G

Probably the form filly for this having won at grade one and was a close fourth in the KY Oaks the only tricky thing here is that she has never run on turf and runs from the widest draw. As silly as it sounds i think they may be the two biggest plus’s for her in this race and i think she may just be my first choice.

SUMMARY

I rarely go for a wide draw in these types of races but The Belle Tolls is such a class above these i think she may get away with it. I don’t care about her never having run on turf because i have seen far too many dirt runners perform first up on turf to think it makes any difference. Second will be tight but if the inside runners go nuts then the two widest may pick them off so i am going for Di Tripazini to get second.
