The marathon distance seems to be where a career can be resurrected or found but consistency sure does seem to be an asset – so, we look for all of that in the BC Turf (GI). Tons Of Dough is a horse that seems to have found a new way of life, selling for just $45.000, but taking the DMR Hcp (GII) in his first start for the new barn – I loved the way he closed that afternoon so he’s going to be my top selection today.
I’m going to give Sri Lanka a big look today – that one has won some very nice graded races this season and I’m hoping that the new owner uses some up-front tactics vs. trying to come from way back. I would probably like Eve Of Destruction more if not for the post draw. He’s been as consistent as any starter in this race and was second from the far outside in the Manhattan Hcp (GI) so maybe he can work some magic again today.
Good luck to everyone – it should be a great race!
Here’s the field….
The win streak came to an end on the wet turf at BEL last out, and that was after a three race streak after being privately purchased by The King. He had been living on a diet of fast pace and was taken way back in that one, so was it the tactics or the wet footing? Either way, you know this barn does their best when the big money is on the line
Has been very competitive at the marathon turf distances, winning the Singspiel (GIII) and closed well to be third in the Pattison Canadian (GI) which is both good and bad – nice closing effort that day, but now he’s back on very short rest. Three miles in 10 days is asking a lot.
Was purchased privately for just $45.000 and came right back to take the DMR Hcp (GII) by a length. Now, it’s off to Championship Day and that is far from the high-end claiming ranks that he has been controlling. He’s undefeated this year and really has set the world on fire with that last out win. Can he repeat that effort?
His only win this season came in the Manhattan (GI) back in June. he has a late kick, but that doesn’t always work well in these huge fields. If he can run back to that earlier form and get a good trip, he may be in the running.
Upset winner of the Arlington Million (GI) and came back from that to be a also-ran in the Northern Dancer (GI) at WO. This isn’t going to be any easier so it’s either find that AP form again or it’s going to be a long afternoon.
Hmmm… was looking good up until that last-out dud in the Hirsch Turf (GI) at BEL. Other than that, he’s been first or second in all of his ’15 races, including some very nice graded races. Was that a bounce or a sign of things to come?
Changed hands prior to this race and he’s won half of his ’15 starts, including a couple of nice graded wins prior to that last out race where he was fifth, but only beaten three quarters of a length. Looks like they changed tactics in that one, taking him back, but hopefully he will be closer to the pace today.
Fantastic win in the Hirsch Turf (GI) but that is his only win in the ’15 season. He was second at the marathon distance prior to that in his only two recent turf tries, so maybe the barn found his liking and are now getting him ready at just the right time.
He’s very sharp right now – five wins from eight ’15 starts, and nice wins in the Northern Dancer (GI) last out and the BEL Derby (GI) two back – that one was a DH. He seems to do well v. older horses as a 3yo, and that weight break must be appreciated. Look at him.
Very consistent type that has been off the board in two lifetime starts and only once this season. Back to back runner-up races at the marathon distance, and he may be the horse that is sitting on win, more than any other in this race. I certainly like him and think you have to look at him.
Much better start in his most recent while second in the Hirsch Turf (GI) after a couple of races where he jammed on the brakes in a bad bad way. Only one win in his ’15 season, and that was quite some time ago. I think they’d love to get any check in this one.
Didn’t lift a foot in the Hirsch Turf (GI) and a bunch of these came from that race, so it’s not going to get any easier here today. It’s been a while since he had his picture taken and seems to run his best races on a wet surface.
It’s been a good season for this consistent 3yo. Five wins from eight starts and never missed a check… that’s nice. He’s never been the distance, and I’m not sure that this is his best spot. He may be around for a piece but I’m just not sure that a mile and a half is what he’s looking for.
Tired a bit to be fourth in that lucrative field race in his most recent. The United Nations (GI) is his only seasonal win, but he does seem to like the track, looking at that second in the Elkhorn (GII) back in the spring. The post does him no favors, but he has some tactical speed and the trip may spell his finish.
3yo needs a scratch to draw in today, and he has shown some want to close. But he’s never been the distance and this would be a tough spot to go after it.
Another 3yo that would need some luck just to load with this field and he’s never been the distance and was well beaten at a mile and a quarter. This isn’t where he wants to run
Already withdrawn from this race.
Almost no chance to draw in and even less of a chance of getting a check.
