We have a nice field of twelve set to go a mile and three-sixteenths with a huge purse of $600.000 on the line in the Beverly D (GI). This is a huge race for the females and we certainly cannot be disappointed for who showed up for this one. I landed on Envy as the top choice today. She ran a huge race in the Lake Placid (GII) at SAR last out, and has won five of eight starts this year… she’s razor sharp and should be ready for this. You certainly have to look at Mb Stables in these big races and he comes loaded today. Let’s put Chances Taken in the second spot, as that BEL Oaks (GI) wasn’t a wet-track fluke… look at that Regret race prior and you can see that what she lacks in experience, only six starts, she makes up in ability. I’ve skipped over Pirate Petranella, last years BC Juv Turf (GI) winner and a handful of other monsters… you can’t pick ’em all… so let’s grab a wobblepop and head out to watch what should be a heck of a race.
Here’s The Field –
She had never missed the board in seven career starts, and then… soft turf. Ughhh, next to last in the BEL Oaks (GI), but she’s right back to working like the good filly she is. Let’s chalk that one up to the surface and look for her to use her pace and rail position to run a big race and get back on track.
Got the job done in the Dance Smartly (GII) at WO last out at nearly 15/1 odds. I don’t understand why she’s always such long odds as she’s almost always in the middle of things. Nice win in the Providencia Stakes (GIII) and also the CAC Oaks, both at SA. She can run a little bit.
Lightly raced, this being her sixth start, but she’s already proving to be another good one for this monster stable. Took the Matchmaker (GIII) at MTH, leading at every call, but she came from off of the pace to take an Alw race prior to that. She’s versatile and talented… a deadly combination.
Hasn’t won since her first start of ’20, taking the Marshuas River Stakes (GIII) at GP… the good news is she’s been close in every start but one the rest of the way, so maybe a bit of racing luck and she get’s back to the winner’s circle.
She’s winless this season, but has a pair of runner-up placings along with a third, all vs. graded horses. She was third last out in the RGD (GIII) at DEL, so maybe she is getting back on-track and is ready for a big race.
Tried stakes horses last out in the BEL Oaks (GI) and did not disappoint as she was second in that big race. She seems to like wet tracks, so they may be hoping for some rain here today. She’s been solid on firm footing as well, so give her a look.
She’s still looking for her first seasonal win, but was second in the Very One (GIII) where she had the lead deep into that one before settling for the place. The last three have been rather forgettable, all mid-pack finishes with no real up side.
Well, she seems to have figured this race horse thing out, real well. Won the Regret (GIII) then the BEL Oaks (GI) last out, taking that one by two lengths on a soggy BEL course. She’s firing on all cylinders and must be look at for another big one here.
Another that didn’t seem to like that soggy BEL course last out when seventh in the BEL Oaks (GI). She was the BC Juv F Turf champ last season, so you know she can flat out get it, but she needs to get back to her old ways or this could be another tough one.
How about five wins already this season, including that last out Lake Placid (GII) victory where she got home in pretty quick time. Throw out that dirt race and she’s nothing but money. I would give her a big chance to take another one here today.
She’s 0-for-the-season and needs to get back on track. She does show a pair of seconds vs. graded stakes company, and she didn’t seem to like the wet track at BEL last out. Still she’s part of the big stable and you have to fear all of them.
Won the Royal Delta (GIII) at GP to kick off ’20, but it’s been a bit of a struggle since. She did wake up a bit when third in the ONT Matron (GIII) but she’s going to need to find a bit more than that, being stuck out here in the twelve hole.
