Big Day of Racing in OK

OK Derby (GIII) & OK Oaks (GIII) —  Bonus Coverage

  1   RP     OK Oaks (GIII)
$100.000   3yoF       1 1/16m  Dirt            122lbs +penalties

Well, it wasn’t on the SRF Schedule, but who can let these two graded races go uncovered?  We look at the field for the OK Oaks (GIII) a mile and a sixteenth affair for the sophomore fillies and OK is such a nice place to visit (not) the field here should be rippin’ to go.  The rail looks hot to me and I will lean on the chalk and Brave Assumption to get the job done in this one.  She’s hasn’t won this season but she’s been tough in almost all of her starts including a pair of runner-up finishes and a third in her last three starts.  This may be a place to change that situation.  Fashionable is another that has to be taken seriously today.  She looked good winning the IO Oaks (GIII) prior to that third at DMR vs. GI horses, so you know she can run big.  I’d give Roo a look at a minor placing, and you can make a case for a few others.

  2   RP   OK Derby (GIII)
$200.000   3yo       1 1/8m  Drit            122lbs +penalties

Let’s keep the party going and take a look at the gents portion of the program and the field for the OK Derby (GIII) to go a mile and an eighth here in OK City.  I think the phrase “wide open” is used far too often, but man oh man does it fit with this one.  I’m looking for Notorious Temper to fire another big race and get the job done here today.  He hasn’t won since changing after a bumpy ride on the TC Trail, but this is a spot that he may be able to get things back on track.  If not, I’ll go with a wild-card and take the far outside horse, X Ray Spex.  I know, he just broke maiden last out, but he was also second in the Peter Pan (GIII) prior to that so he is a proven horse vs. graded foes.  I’d also give Home Spirit a look, even though he was claimed for a mere $7.500 back two starts ago.  He’s won both starts for the new barn and took a small stake by three lengths last out… he make be an up-and comer.
