The Hudson kicked off a busy day of statebred stake racing at BEL, and what seemed like an evenly matched race would end up not having a single winner. Instead, Deliberation and Rising King will have to share the win as they hit the line together. Angelos Stable, the trainer for Deliberation, and his jockey J Lezcano pick up their first win in the stake. For Rising King, who was our pick to win, the trainer, Maxmillion Farm, is now a three time winner with D Davis picking up his first win. The winning time would be 1:15.39, making it the second quickest running of the Hudson that was run at this distance. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :22.90)- Rising King broke sharply out of the starting gate for Maxmillion Farm and had the field cleared by a length rather quickly. However, he would not open up any further, settling in while being content with that advantage. Cliffs of Dover, from Spankys Barn, would hold the second spot, and begin to have aspirations of making an outside move for the lead as they approached the turn. Gettysburg, the surprising post time favorite from Night Rider Stables and Iguacu Falls, out of D J C Racing Stables, ran side by side for third, about two lengths from the lead. The other co-winner of the race, Deliberation, was fifth, but within a length of those two while running in the third lane. It was three wide behind him between Stolen (D J C Racing Stables), Interdesign (Team 7 Illusions), and Keanu Storm (Arindel). Much further back is Di Bug (John Henry).

(½ Mile-:45.58, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Out front, Rising King handles the turn exceptionally well and gains another length on the second place Cliffs Of Dover. At this point, he seemed to be in very good shape. Iguacu Falls started looming as a bigger challenger, moving up to a clear 3rd during the turn, but as they got to the stretch, he was again even with Gettysburg, as if nothing ever changed. Deliberation, within the turn started to look like he was going to drop back rather than move forward but this was just part of the plan, it appeared. He was still in the third lane now, and had three lengths to make up. The rest of the field saw little change.

(Finish- 1:15.39)- Rising King really looked to have this in the bag in the stretch, and with a furlong to go, everything seemed well. However, Deliberation kept at it, and Rising King may have been getting leg weary in the late strides as the rest of the field also began to close on. The deliberate push of Deliberation would not go to waste, and he would hit the wire at the same time as Rising King, giving us a dead heat for the top spot. Behind them by a length, it looked like we could have a five way dead heat for third. They were that close, but the official order goes down as Interdesign, Iguacu Falls, Cliffs Of Dover, Stolen, and Gettysburg. Di Bug and Keanu Storm round it out.

About the Winners- Rising King, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by D Davis, is a three year old colt by Prudent Commander, and is out of Basilisk. He was bred in New York by TwinTowersRacing as a third quarter two year old, and acquired by Maxmillion via LionKing Stables in an August 2019 private sale for $20.000 while he was still unraced. The win is his third in seven starts, and it is his first stake win. His career earnings are now $167.920.

Deliberation, trained by Angelos Stable and ridden to victory by J Lezcano, is a six year old gelding by the late Five Star Moon and is out of Excess Baggage. He was bred in New York by Mb Stables as a first quarter two year old, and was acquired in September 2016 via a $30.000 claim. It is his 14th win in 36 starts, and his third stake win. HIs career earnings are now $543.280.
