The Go For Wand Handicap – Grade III
11/27/2015 13:40 11/22/2015 3:00 AQU Race #5 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $300.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.
It seems that Night Mare Racing and Threshold Stables were left off the mailing
list for the Autumn because once again the three year olds dominated the four year
olds, even without the weight for age concesssion. It is almost too predictible that
the three’s are given this code boost every year and the entries dwindle as the leading
stables read the ‘matrix’ and put their four year olds to bed. So whilst i have been
writing it for a good month now i still didnt follow my own advice and tipped out
Barbies Corvette for a race she could never win.
Here is how they ran:
1st Aquichant, trained by Maxmillion Farm
Got onto the speed from the doomed wide gate but as we have seen the wide gate hasnt
been as deadly recently and after being steadied she never really looked like being passed.
Running a full second quicker than she ran in the Chilukki last time she ran out a
comfortable two length winner. We wont really know what this means going forward because
the whole coding thing will even out next summer but this was a very good and most
improved performance that should warm her trainers heart going into Winter.
2nd Midnight Wild, trained by Maxmillion Farm
A winner of only one race this year and that was a maiden. She managed to continue her
seasons improvement with a nice effort in this race beating a couple of good four year
olds but unable to match her stable companion.
3rd Barbies Corvette, trained by Night Mare Racing
At this time of year even a grade one winning four year old struggles against the threes
and sure enough this admirable daughter of Pink Panther was the loser in a timing issue.
It wasnt that she ran badly it is just that the three’s are boosted to such an extent at
this time of year that it is very hard to give any weight to them and thats what she
failed to do today. Putting pressure on the leader early she found little when put under
the whip and managed only an average third. I would imagine she will get a well deserved
rest now and we will see her in some form next year.
4th Space Fairy, trained by Threshold
Even with a feather weight and some four pounds less than she carried to a faster time last
time out she could not handle the hot three’s and was a never dangerous last.
