13 SA SA Oaks (GII) [KYO]
$400.000 3yoF 1 1/16th Dirt 122lbs
It’s out to Arcadia and beautiful SA for the SA Oaks (GII) on what is always a huge day of racing here in SoCal. You know the story, when the chips are on the table, you usually have to look for an Mb Stables charge and the same is true here. I took Feral Impact as my top choice and I’ve liked this one in just about all of her races. She won the BC Juv Filly (GI) at KEE and has been second in her two starts after that. I look for her to get back to the winning ways today. Another that deserves a big look is Shes A Super Freak… a freak indeed. She was fourth in the BC Juv Filly Turf (GI) and has two wins on the main track this season, so you know she has a thing for getting her picture taken. If you are looking for a horse that should continue to improve, Modesta may be your cup of tea. She’s consistent and with only five starts, her best should be in front of her.
The field is loaded so it should be a great race.
Here’s the Field –
I’ve been a big fan of hers since she started running and she just doesn’t seem to run a bad race… second in her last two, both big graded races, and oh yeah, she is the BC Juv Filly (GI) champ. She’s the one to beat every time she steps on the track.
She’s been about as steady as you could want, until… last out she was tenth of twelve in the Busher at AQU and I just can’t see why (engine?). Look for her to snap back today and make a big run at them.
One start, still a maiden and to call this aggressive placement is like saying the Grand Canyon is a hole in the ground. Quick work getting ready for today, but this would be the upset of all upsets.
Sold three starts back after breaking maiden and was second in a stakes at the FG before winning the Las Virgenes (GIII) at SA. Came back to be seventh in the Honeybee (GIII) so she needs to bounce back from that effort to be a threat here.
Was running big with three wins prior to her sixth place finish on BC Day, then ran fourth in an OptAlw race to kick-off her 21 season. She will need more than that here today, but she is a talented filly and still must be watched.
Two wins in a row after breaking maiden then taking down OptAlw types at SA. Can she keep the good times rolling and score her first stakes win on a huge stage like this? She looked good on this surface last out so maybe the home cookin does her well.
Was cruising right along getting checks at the NY-bred and open stakes level, then ran sixth in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) over this strip last out. She was closing a bit in the late stages of that one but will need to find a bit more in this one.
Two big wins in her last two starts taking the Silverbulletday at FG then the Davona Dale (GII) at GP last out, so she’s a perfect two-for-two this season. Only a maiden win as a 2yo so she’s certainly raised her game as a sophomore. Giver her a big look today.
She was third in the Santa Ynez (GII) and won the Santa Ysabel (GIII) last out, both over this track. She was up the track in that FG race between that pair, so getting back to this surface may do her some good.
Only the sixth start for this one and she’s been tough in every single start. Just missed a head in the Alexandra, then was third over this track in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) last out, where she made a big run down the lane. If she can continue to improve, she could pull the upset.
