Can the Filly Take Connally BC Turf?

RACE 7 HOU 1/30/2016  Post Time 8:00 PM
Connally BC Turf (GIII)
$200.000   4yo&Up     1  1/2m     Turf

1
Vegas Viper  Maxmillion Farm  Saez L     4/1 123

Lightly raced 4yo makes his ninth start and has two previous wins including the Greenwood (GIII) at PRX back in Sept. and that was at today’s distance.  Changed tactics last out and got a huge lead only to fold like a bad card table when the money was on the line, finishing fourth of five in an OptAlw at AQU, also at today’s distance.  He’s going to need his best to be in the middle of this one.

2
 Copper Clappers  Scorpion Stables  Parker D L      5/1 123

This one has been on a steady diet of graded stakes foes for quite some time.  Only one win last season and he switched hands at the Dec. Auction, selling for $55.900.  If he runs to that win in the Louisville Hcp (GIII) at CD, then he could be in the middle of this.  If it’s more of the last two races, it’s going to be a long day.

3
 Chainsaw Sallie  Nj Vets  Collier T L     5/1 123

Had a very successful ’15 season with three wins and a nice chunk of change in the bank.  Sold via the auction for $150.770 then again after a single start, going via private sale for $125.000 after a tiring fourth place finish at SA going a flat mile.  The new outfit tries him back in a marathon, and he was a nice closing third in the Temperance Hill at BEL.  Tactics will be interesting, to say the least.

4
Classical Composer  Yahudi Stables  Wales T        4/1 123

His only ’15 win came back in the summer at the Spa when he wired OptAlw types by four at today’s distance.  Tired facing GI company and again in an overnight stakes in FLA going shorter, so it’s hard to read where this one is right now.  Speed in this one could be something to watch.

 Broomsticks N Booty  Drabfantasy  Pennington F      3/1 118

The filly takes on the boys here today, and stretches out to the marathon distance…  quite a bit to ask of her.  She stashed some serious cash last year, including a win (DH) in the KY Oaks (GI).  She won the MTH Oaks (GIII) by six and just missed on BC Day.  That’s pretty much the bad and the good… she can run, but this is tough.

6
 Make A Decision  D J C Racing Stables  Wade L      6/1 123

A pair of seasonal wins in ’15, but he was on the board a bunch in all but one race.  He looks like he wants the marathon distance and I’m a bit surprised it took him this long to get here.  With what looks to be a ton of speed in this one, his off the pace style may be just what is needed to get the job done.
