3 BEL The Frizette (GI) [BC]
$400.000 2yoF 1m Dirt 119lbs
Sunday is an important day for the 2yo fillies as we take in The Frizette (GI) here at BEL, and it has big BC Day ramifications. I think this is all about Incendiary as this gray filly seems to be as tough as any horse in this group. She had won four in a row before the runner up finish in the Spanaway and she was a couple of jumps from winning that one as well. She looks as good as any in this class to me. Another that seems ready to make a huge move today is Paris Pinnacle Party. She’s another that has been tough in all starts and was closing late in the DMR Debutante (GI) so the mile should be good for her. We can give Mb all of the press so let’s go with my wild-card horse and see if Curlina is what she seems to be. As a first time starter, all she did was run fourth in the Spinaway (GI)… I just want to see what she does today, because she may be very very special.
You know I’m horrible with these 2yo races, even worse with the fillies… grab a good spot and let’s see how this goes.
Here’s The Field –
A perfect three-for-three including a nice win vs. Cal-bred stakes horses at DMR in her most recent. Broke maiden at first asking, took care of Alw foes at SAR and she’s never been headed… we find out what she’s made of today.
Another that broke maiden at first asking, was second at SAR vs. Alw horses, then won the Sorority Stakes at MTH in fine fashion. She looks to be any type and I think you have to give her a big chance in this one as well… don’t leave her off of your tickets.
She broke maiden in her second start then came back to win by daylight at ALB vs. OptAlw foes. Both wins were by four lengths, so she’s obviously better than what she’s been facing, but is she this good?
The big barn has another good one here as she’s won three of five starts and was third in the other two trips to the track. Third beaten a half length in the DMR Debutante (GI) and she was getting closer with every stride in that one. She’s real good and you have to give her a big chance here today.
Yet another that broke maiden at first asking and has been close in a pair of graded races at DMR. She was second in the Sorority (GII) and fourth only a half-length back in the DMR Debutante (GI) so this is just another day at work for her. She certainly deserves to be given a big shot today.
A bit of an up-and-down journey for this one so far… sixth in her debut but came back to break maiden at CD in quick time, then was eighth in the Debutante at CD, only to just miss at SAR in the Seeking The Ante vs. NY bred stakes company. She has some ability, but this is a tough group.
Second part of the three-headed big-barn entry and this one just broke maiden last out but that was a heck of a closing effort, at the six furlong distance. She was seventh at the top of the lane and got up to win by a nose, so the increase in distance may be just what this one wants. Still, it’s a deep, tough field, and she will have to be a monster to get this done.
The true wild-card in this one, as far as I’m concerned. First time starter ran fourth beaten a length in the Spinaway (GI) at SAR. No doubt, the barn thinks a lot of her and she certainly did nothing to take away from the lofty view. She should be on the improve off of that start and may just run off and hide… she will have my full attention.
Removing lasix may have been key for this one as she won the Spinaway (GI) with the dumping of that medication. That was a huge win and certainly put her on the top of many lists, although that race was on a wet surface. So, was it the adjustment(s) or is she a horse that just runs huge on a wet track?
The third part of the Mb trio and she’s been tough as nails since the get go. Four wins and a pair of seconds from her six starts, so there’s no doubt that she’s the horse to get past if you want to win this one. Key her on all of your wagers because she looks like a monster.
Broke maiden in her second start, was up the track in that Ohio stakes race then was third vs. Fla-bred stakes company in her most recent. She’s been up and down a bit, but has certainly shown some ability so keep an eye on her for part of this one as well.
She seems to have figured out this race horse gig… three wins in a row breaking maiden at CD, won an Alw race at SAR then took down LA-bred stakes company in her most recent. Can she handle the next step up and get the job done with this type? That’s why we are here.
Looked good breaking maiden by two in her first start but that was at MNR and this is a GI so they may be happy if they don’t draw into the field. It’s asking a lot, that is for sure.
