9 KEE Breeders Futurity (GI) [BC] [KYD]
$500.000 2yo 1 1/16m Drit 122 lbs
Out to my favorite place in the whole wide world… beautiful KEE and fall here is just unbelievable. Speaking of special, we get a full field of up-and-coming Freshmen set to go a mile and a sixteenth in the Breeders Futurity (GI) and this carries BC Day ramifications, as well. I’m going to give the slight edge to Double Sided as this Jive Inc. owned gelding seems like a horse that really has guts, heart and ability. He’s won both outings since switching barns and I’ll give him the nod. Another that looks set to give another big effort is Suikoden II. He’s never run worse than second in four starts, had the lead in the Iroquois (GIII) before fading a bit late, but he looks like a horse that can be a big factor today. Mb Stables is always a barn to watch, so let’s give Everymanforhimself a shot to get the win today. There are a bunch in here that certainly deserve a serious look, so let’s see how this one plays out.
Here’s The Field –
Broke maiden at CD in his second start, then came back to be third in the Best Pal (GII) at DMR. An even sixth in his last outing, the DMR Futurity (GI) and they removed the Lasix in that one. Medication is back today… is that enough to make him a threat or is he a wet track specialist?
Broke maiden at first asking, getting the job done at ALB, showing a good late burst. The vet came by the barn and told him to get his mind off of the little ladies, so he’s a pure race horse now. Can he make it two in a row?
Broke maiden in his second start down at LS then was the runner-up in that NY bred stakes at SAR, run on a wet track. He closed fast in the late stages of that one, so distance seems to be his friend. Can he move that over to graded horses? We find out today.
Second part of the Smokey Stover entry and he looks like a nice horse. Broke maiden at SAR, then won an ONT-bred stakes at WO on a wet track. Tired a bit as the 2/1 favorite in the Iroquois (GIII), but that’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of. I’d give him a big look in this one
Another nice horse that was purchase out of the Jun Auction for $44.000 and has been perfect since switching to this barn. Broke maiden at DMR then won the AP Wash Futurity, both of those in tough, game fashion. Another like either of those races, and he should be in the mix when they come down the lane.
Third part of the entry and this one broke maiden at first asking, was fifth in a FLA-bred stakes as the 5/2 favorite, then won an Alw race at BEL, going a distance in wire-to-wire fashion. He seems to like to flaunt his speed, so let’s see if he can carry that with this type of field.
No doubt the barn likes this one as they just plunked down $550.000 to purchase him He broke maiden in his second start, won the Sanford (GIII) at SAR on a wet track, then tired in the Hopeful (GI) over that same oval, and he just didn’t seem to get going that afternoon. Can he bounce back here?
Broke maiden at second asking, and got the job done vs. some high-end horses at SAR. That was a nice purse, and he beat a few nice horses in that race, so let’s see if he moves up to the graded horses and keeps that form going. He may have some money behind him, and I think he’s a nice one.
Broke maiden in his first start, then took down NY-bred stakes company at SAR, going gate to wire in both of those races. He tired to be fourth in the DMR Futurity (GI) where he couldn’t get the lead and was passed late. Can he turn it around and get back to his winning ways?
Second part of the Mb Stables entry and he’s been tough in every start. Broke maiden at PLN, was third in the Victoria Stakes at WO, then beat Cal-bred stakes horses at DMR in his most recent. The big barn has been running huge in these 2yo races of late, so watch this one.
Third part of that Fractious contention and this one has been tough in every single start. Only on win, breaking maiden at CD but has been on the board in every trip to the gate, including both for this barn, a second vs. Cal-bred stakes company at DMR, then a closing third place finish in the DMR Futurity. He looks like a good one.
So far, so good. Two-for-two winning at first asking taking FP MSW to task, then won an ONT-bred stakes at WO, showing good speed on the grass. It’s hard to fault anything he’s done so far, but this is obviously a step up in class, so he will need his best.
Broke maiden in his second trip to the gate but would need some luck to draw into the field. Has speed, could be dangerous if he gets in.
Wire to wire winner going a route at LAD and really hasn’t run a bad race in his four trips to the track. He would need help getting into the field, but looks like a runner.
