2 AQU NY Stallion Series – Staten Island
$150.000 3yo&Up F&M Foaled in NY 7f Dirt 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs +penalties
Empire state bred ladies will be the ticket for the NY Stallion Series – Staten Island, a seven furlong sprint over the main track here at AQU. I have an entry in this one and hate covering my own, but we can push past that and take some shots at cashing a ticket. Let’s put Dirty Storm on top in this one. The three year old filly has been tough in all of her seasonal starts, and was competitive vs graded horses despite those being her worst races. Hollywood Phooey is another that has to be given a shot. She’s run big in a bunch of NY-bred races and no reason to get off of her bandwagon today. I think the wildcard here could be Widen Your View as she won back after being parked for more than a year.
It’s a solid group and it should be a fun race to watch.
Here’s The Field –

Widen Your View | Mwn Racing | Rosario J | 124 | 6/1 |
Purchased from the Sept Auction and paid immediate dividends taking down NY-bred Alw types at FL in her first start for the new connections. That was her only start this year, so she certainly ran well off of a long rest. If that’s a sign of things to come, you’d best consider her when you head towards the windows.

El Gran Condottieri | First Flight Stable | Velazquez J R | 123 | 10/1 |
The good, the bad and the ugly… the good is she beat similar over this track back in April, the bad is she’s changed hand a few times this year, despite showing some promise and the ugly is she ended up in my barn, switching over from some very talented conditioners. That’s just not good for her.

Hollywood Phooey | Sunny J Farm | Ortiz J L | 124 | 4/1 |
She’s been on the board in six of eight starts and the other two were fourth place finishes so she certainly knows how to bring the money home. She changed hands two races back and has a second and a third since the hostile takeover. She never seems to run a bad race and no reason to think she would start today.

Dirty Storm | Arindel | Franco M | 121 | 7/2 |
This filly has had a very solid ’21 season and her only two off the board finishes were vs. high-end graded horses, and even those races were nothing to be ashamed of. That last out fifth in the Raven Run (GII) at KEE, the down side is she was last but only beaten a length. She has two recent wins vs open high-end Alw types and I’d expect her to be right in the middle of things when they turn for home.

Her lone ’21 win came vs Alw types at FP where she pushed the pace and kicked clear late. Came back to be third at FL vs. Alw types and now moves into state-bred stakes looking for a bigger payday. This is a step up in class in my opinion but she seems to be in good form so keep an eye on her.

Pivotal Role | Mwn Racing | Saez L | 121 | 9/2 |
Makes her first start for the new connections after being purchased from the Sept Auction. She’s been on the board in eight of eleven starts and won her last two starts for the prior owner. She’s been on a steady diet of NY-bred competition so this is nothing new for her and she should be in the mix.

Di Lemoniti | Gdp Inc | Alvarado J | 124 | 7/1 |
Broke maiden last out, spanking maiden claimers at CD, running off to win by six. Third in her other three starts so she’s never been off of the board and has shown good speed in all races. This is an obvious step up in class, but you can’t fault her ability. Give her a look.
