5 SUN Steak House Stakes

We jump across the state line from old El Paso and catch a nice field of six NM breds set to sprint six panels in the Steak House Stakes. I took Iron Mike to get the porterhouse in this one as he’s been bringing home checks vs this type for quite some time. He just missed at today’s distance last out while setting all of the fractions, and this looks like a good spot for him. Cowboys Are King is another that should bring the meat… he also just missed vs. similar last out, but that was going a distance, and add in that he won at today’s distance prior to that and you have what should be a past performance that says he’s a factor.

Broke maiden with ease last out, opening a seven length lead before cruising home by three vs NM-bred types. He was claimed out of that event and goes right after the black-type horses here today. The new barn is still looking for their first win of the ’22 season I’m sure they’d like to get it here.

Just missed vs similar last out and both of his ’21 wins came vs. the NM-bred horses, breaking maiden and also taking down stakes company at ZIA. He is a horse that has to be feared in this one and may be the horse to get past.

He’s been on a steady diet vs. the NM-bred horses and was third last out facing black-type foes at ZIA. He closed a bit of ground going longer, and will have to get going a bit earlier in this sprint race. Still, he could be a factor down the lane.

Broke maiden vs. NM MSW horses in his third trip to the gate and second for the connections. He went wire to wire at a flat mile and showed speed going a mile and a sixteenth prior to that, so it’s a matter of how his two-turn speed translates into this one turn sprint.

Just missed vs. similar at ZIA going today’s distance in his most recent and has been on the board in a number of NM-bred stakes outings. He’s shown good speed, seems to fit and should be a handful today… you have to use him on all tickets.

Broke maiden last out at ZAI getting home by four going a flat mile. He struggled vs. NM stakes company, trying them while still a maiden, so he obviously has to turn it up a notch to be in the middle of this one.
