LA Stakes – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Champion In Action Night Rider Stables Hernandez B J Jr
With the handicapping finals on there will be a few that wished they had ten bucks on this trifecta as it paid 1166/1 which was helped by this winner who belied his seven years to grind out a gutsy head win. It is easy to overlook the older horses in these races but they still have a healthy advantage over the fours and this winner of ten races and nearly 1.5K in prize money had it all there if you were willing to overlook his advanced years. Inconsistency has always been his enemy but today he was in a great mood and supplied the stable with a welcome win.
2nd Crack Dab Gdp Inc Jaramillo E
He had beaten Champion In action in his last two races so was probably a bit shocked when it was that horse that rallied to beat him today. He was taking ground all the way to the post but just couldn’t force his nose in front in the end. A good enough effort from the six year old to suggest there are a few mile left in the legs.
3rd Sunderland Til I Die TwinTowersRacing Beschizza A
Considering his good effort in the Travers last year i was pretty surprised that this one was such long odds but that just the way the trainer likes it as once again they got the most out of their horse to see it gamely run third. This was a promising effort for this four year old who was part of last years lost generation and this effort so early in the season suggests there is more to come from him this year.
4th Neo Arindel Saez L
I thought it was going to be the stable mate that would be in the finish but it was in fact this sprinter that found his was to the last paying spot. His recent works have suggested he may do well in a route and do well he did with a promising effort.
